Greetings! While everyone will tell you about the horrors of the humidity on the East Coast, for some reason when there is a boat to jump off of into a dewy sweet river, you somehow get over it. When there are loved ones to sit with waterside and solve the problems of the world while sipping on chilled, freshly-made cocktail concoctions, you start thinking "what heat"? When your twilight is filled with nieces and nephews laughing as they catch fireflies and make hearts and stars with sparklers in the air, you relish in the joy of it all. Just when you think it can't get any better, cousin Beth whips up her famous crab dip from hand picked crabs, and you start to wonder how you can ever live anywhere else.
Meanwhile, back at your office, you gaze out across the shimmering water and it dawns on you that you live in Northern California and you get to sail on the San Francisco Bay. Perhaps it's that moment that you realize that you may just have the best of both worlds. Life is indeed pretty sweet.
I'm back, people and I'm ready to go sailing. Who's coming with us to Petaluma? We have a good crowd and we're looking forward to some great summertime fun! I've added a sign-up sheet below so be sure to let us know you're coming along.

THE BRUNCH BUNCH CHARTER SHARE -
To The Ramp Waterfront Restaurant
Alameda Departure
Sunday, July 24th - Meet at 0930
OK, we got the message. You don't like Chowder Charters. We were trying to provide a venue for shared cost sailing, much like Hump Nights, but for a full day's sail. Was it our cooking?
We haven't given up yet! We're going to tweak this a little and lower the price a little. This is a CharterShare event with a fixed price of $75 per member. Everyone meets at the club at 0930 and will be assigned boats just like Hump Nights. Each time we'll visit a different waterfront restaurant for brunch, so you don't have to put up with our cooking. If you want to put together your own group, that's fine too. You can either go on the assigned boat, or charter your own and tag along.
Head to The Ramp Restaurant
Members & Guests: $75/Non-Members: $125

TODAYS TIP!
Don't be a yeller.
If you sail in conditions like we have on the San Francisco Bay, you've likely had some moments when immediate action may be necessary and raising your voice over wind and flapping sails may be required. There's a difference between yelling and raising your voice. Be firm and direct. Try to avoid terms like "idiot" or "useless". Try, if at all possible to avoid expletives of any kind they tend to be a waste of syllables. If you have crew on the boat who are unfamiliar with terminology, it might be best to direct them to go down below until you have finished your maneuver. If you need inexperienced crew to assist you, give them the job that you can explain quickly in a manner that they will understand.
Another downside of yelling is that unless you are a big fan of single-handing, if you keep yelling, people aren't going to want to sail with you. If you find that your list of sailing buddies is getting smaller and smaller and your buddies are spending a large amount of time "watching the neighbor's ferret", you might want to take a look at your delivery. Nobody likes a yeller.

CLUB NAUTIQUE NEEDS NEW BOATS!
Would you like to own a new sail or power boat and use charter income and income tax savings to help pay for it? If this concept is interesting to you, let us share a few amazing statistics with you. Belle Soeurs, our new Beneteau 34, which is owned by a retired Big 4 accounting firm partner, has broken every record ever set by a new boat in our fleet. In her first 3 months in the fleet, she chartered at an annual rate of 164 days. As of this writing, she has 25 days of reservations on the books and she's just getting warmed up. Most members haven't even seen her yet (she's rarely sitting in her slip to be seen), let alone had the opportunity to sail her.
To put this in perspective, most boats create positive cash flow with 50-75 days of charter per year. Belle Soeurs is more than doubling that! Want some more good reasons to put a boat in the fleet now? Here are just a few major reasons:
- Our fleet is older than it's ever been and we need to bring in new boats & move old ones out.
- Boat loan interest rates are the lowest they've been in history. We just did a charter boat loan at 4.25% fixed for 15 years with no points, fees, or penalties.
- There are a limited number of Beneteaus in factory inventory on sale with factory discounts up to $26,500. These boats are 2012 hull numbers at 2011 pricing.
- The America's Cup is coming to San Francisco Bay. What do you think that's going to do to charter activity?
- If you have a large bonus or want to exercise stock options in 2011 and shelter them from taxes, you can write off up to 100% of the boat purchase this year. This option expires on 12/31/11. This write off is not subject to alternative minimum tax calculations!
- Charter boat owners get free memberships and free dues and of course, they don't pay to sail their own boats.
- If you want the tax benefits in 2011, you must take delivery in 2011 and for some models, deliveries are close to year end. It's time to get your order in now.
There are more good reasons, but you get the idea. If you'd like detailed information on how this can work for YOU, contact Jerry, Dave, or Don, today!
