Greetings!
We took an informal poll around the clubhouse this past weekend - nine out of ten fathers agree that the best gift they could get for Father's Day would be to go sailing with their children and grandchildren! Why not give them what they want? Take Dad out for a great day of sailing on Sunday - we've scheduled several two-hour skippered sails out of both locations. Cost is just $300 for a private sail for up to 6 people. Give us a call if you're interested.
If my Dad lived here, you bet your bippy we'd be doing something "boaty". I'll just have to go out on a boat in his honor. Happy Father's Day to ME! Errr... YOU, Dad! Love you!
On another note, we went out yesterday to see the AC 45s in action. Let me just say... WOW! They did not disappoint. The wind was honking and it was pretty choppy - it was San Francisco, in the summertime, in the slot. One of the boats did a nose dive and ended up capsizing. They knocked a person-sized hole in the main. OUCH. One person was taken to the hospital with a rib injury but is doing fine. That's why they wear helmets! LIVE THE EXCITEMENT OF AMERICA'S CUP! IT'S HAPPENING NOW!
We were out on the water on Monday and enjoyed an up close and personal view of the AC 45s running through the paces. The boats get out on the water about 1pm and jockey all over the Bay. At about 2pm they start a series of races that last about 10 minutes. The start line is staged just off of the Golden Gate Yacht Club, just East of the Golden Gate Bridge along the city front. You can safely lurk about just off the shore being careful to watch your depth. You can tune your VHF to channel 69 to listen to the race committee giving direction to the boats. PHOTO SCAVENGER HUNT! 
Shutterbugs and fun seekers unite!Fun for the whole family! Create a crew, charter a boat and hit the waves to snap photos of maritime landmarks around the bay! Summer Sailstice announces the fifth annual photo scavenger hunt from the water, Saturday, June 18! Create a crew, grab your digital camera, hop on a boat, then hit the waves to start capturing scavenger list items. You may sail or motor. Rules and Regs All items can be found on the San Francisco Bay and Alameda Estuary. Your team must take digital photographs (using a CompactFlash, miniSD or SD compatible camera) between the hours of 10am and 3pm. Head to Encinal Yacht Club to offload your image files with our contest panel no later than 3:30pm. You will track down items in three categories:
- Interpretive
- Solve a riddle
- Find the items
First, second and third place winners will be selected. To enter the photo scavenger hunt, send email with boat owner name, boat name, email address to: martha@renegade-pr.com by Thursday, June 16. TODAYS TIP!
 Head downwind to furl in your jib.
In the heavier winds of the summertime in the slot, furling in a jib headed to weather can put unnecessary flogging on the jib and all that pressure makes it particularly difficult to muscle. Head downwind and blanket the jib to take the pressure off and furl in with ease! Easy peasy lemon squeezie!
