Greetings!
What a great weekend! Cloud-speckled skies, steady wind and high-contrast between sunlight and shadows painted a dramatic background during our third annual Armed Forces Cup Regatta. There was a strong sense of pride and excitement at the clubhouse and we were all glad to celebrate the men and women of the Armed Forces.
In keeping with that level of excitement, we are gearing up for a great Memorial Day weekend. A flotilla of 18 boats are headed for Monterey Bay, Capitola, Stillwater Cove and Half Moon Bay. These trips are the highlights of our year. We're looking forward to sailing with everyone.
If you're looking for an adventure closer to home, be sure to sign up for the Inside the Bay Tour. There are several boats touring various yacht clubs and having land lubbers meet them along the way. It should be a great time!
We hope to see you out there!

TODAYS TIP!
Discover the Bay's best kept anchorage secret - Horseshoe Cove!
Just inside the Golden Gate Bridge on the North side, resides Horseshoe Cove which, in our opinion is the most under-rated anchorage inside the Bay.
Some things that make it so great:
- World class panoramic views
- Close to the Golden Gate if you plan an early departure
- Great anchor hold in a protected cove
- Dinghy dock to Presidio Yacht Club
- Guest slips at Presidio Yacht Club for smaller vessels
- Presidio Yacht Club Happy Hour on Friday nights
- Dingy ride and walking distance to Murray Circle
Some things to look out for:
- Depth may be lower than charted - be cautious
- Do not block movement of Coast Guard boats
- Docks are a bit rickety so if you do stay - watch your step

NOGGIN BOGGLER!
Submitted by John Carroll
Simply reply to this email with your answer to the following nautical Noggin-Boggler. There is no need to change the subject line, just hit reply and send your answer. Club Nautique will choose the winner for this week's Boggler randomly from all of the correct entries. Please respond by noon on Monday, May 23rd.
Question:
You want to visit S.E. Farallon Island, intending to motor sail out to and then sail from the ship channel's buoy "G1". The rhumb line from the buoy to the island is 245 M. The forecast is for winds from 300 degrees at 15 knots all day. In these conditions, you can trim your boat to an apparent wind 40 degrees off the bow while maintaining a boat speed of 5 knots. Pointing any higher will dramatically reduce boat speed. In this situation, the angle between the real wind and the apparent wind is about 13 degrees. a) Assuming the winds are as forecast, what is your probable heading on a starboard tack from G1? b) Eventually you may have to tack. Again assuming the winds are as forecast, what is your probable heading on a port tack ?
Winner will receive an attractive Club Nautique hat!

NOGGIN BOGGLER WINNER!
You have to play to win! Looks like we stumped you this week!
Question: In honor of our Armed Forces Cup, according to those who have gone through military training, what is the definition of a "square meal"?

Answer: "Square meal" goes back to early days of various military academies. At mealtimes, plebes or cadets were required to sit at the edge of their seats in a modified position of attention. You had to form a square, with your torso and lap as half of the square and the other two sides formed by lifting a forkful of food straight up from the surface of the plate until it reached the level of your mouth and then moving the fork parallel to your lap until it reached your mouth. The return trip to the plate was the exact reverse of bringing the food to your mouth...a square meal.
