Greetings!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! 2011 has started off to be a GREAT year! If you haven't heard, it is official, the America's Cup is coming to San Francisco in 2013! The decision came down to the wire and just hours before the deadline for the announcement, San Francisco won the honor of being the host city for this prestigious sporting event.

This is a great opportunity for San Francisco and for the entire sailing community. Preliminary events are set to start as early as this summer! Just imagine - YOU will have a front row seat to world class racing. Click here to read an article about the bid.

WINTER WEDNESDAY SEMINARS!

We are excited to announce another great season of seminars to keep you on your sailing toes! We are waiting to confirm a few dates but the topics have been locked in. We will be alternating between Alameda and Sausalito this year to give the folks in the North Bay a chance to get in some learning.

The next seminar will be:

Wednesday, January 5th
6pm - 8pm
Sausalito
Don't get hit by a super-tanker!

Presented by Club Nautique instructor, retired captain and Cal Maritime graduate, Peter Leib. Peter will share his insights and perspectives of transiting the Bay from the merchant mariner's point of view. Captain Leib, a lifelong sailor, grand prix racer and world cruiser, will discuss aspects of commercial shipping important to yachtsmen, including laws, routes, identifying ships to determine their destination, ships' maneuvering characteristics and limitations, Vessel Traffic Control Systems, A.I.S., and the importance of a proper radar reflector in an effort to keep us all safely sharing the Bay.

FREE! Everyone welcome. Please call to reserve your seat today!

Todays TipTODAY'S TIP

Avoid cotton socks to keep your feet warm in cooler weather!

Wearing cotton socks during winter weather has the potential to make your feet colder than wearing no socks at all. Cotton socks have little insulation value and they absorb and hold moisture - so once they're wet, they stay wet!

For cold weather, socks made of wool, IsoWool, shearling, fleece and similar type synthetic materials should be used. The reason these types of socks are excellent for winter wear is because if they get wet, the socks themselves do not lose their insulating properties.
