5 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT RADAR!
Thursday, November 6th 6pm - 7pm At the San Carlos West Marine
This 1 hour seminar will introduce the audience to all the powerful tools that RADAR has to offer. It will also explain how RADAR works and how to use it. You will also learn the one very important thing to remember about any marine electronics. Presented by Club Nautique instructor, Richard Foregger. Richard's interest in boating began on Lake Texoma, Texas while producing marketing films for a local sailboat manufacturer. He earned his 100 ton Master license in Seattle, WA where he crewed, captained, and taught on every type of power driven vessel from the steam powered Virginia V, a 1920's vintage 120 foot mosquito fleet ferry, to 56 foot Sea Rays for a local marine dealership. He has delivered boats up and down the West coast and even spent two months aboard a 32 foot salmon trawler in Bristol Bay, AK. He is the proud owner of a 1987 Marine Trader power boat. A film/video producer by trade, he has a journalism degree from the University of Houston and a master's degree in Business Administration from Boston University.
FREE! Everyone welcome.

TODAY'S TIP Download the COLREGS and study the rules of the road. Particularly the Lights and Shapes section. Knowing the rules of the road is a necessary part of getting your Captain's License but it also helps you become a better skipper. Sailing at night creates new challenges - being able to identify the meaning of the lights that are out there can help you to avoid a collision and keep you out of danger. Get crafty and create your own flash cards to study. Challenge your crew - see who can be the first to identify the shapes and the lights that you see along the way.

Congratulations to Patrick North! Winner of a Maritime Institute's Guide to Rules of the Road.
QUESTION:
When studying for your Captain's License, one of the largest hurdles is learning the rules of the road as set forth in the Colregs (International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea). INLAND ONLY What lights are required for a barge, not part of a composite unit, being pushed ahead?
ANSWER: COLREG Rule 24 calls for forward sidelights (unusual in that they must be forward) and a special flashing light (the yellow flashing light is centered as far forward as practical and flashes 50 to 70 times per minute).
