Greetings!

As it turns out, I was drowning my sorrows in Philly Cheesesteaks all on my own on Saturday night as joyous Giants fans danced about me pointing and laughing. Well done Giants! You know what this means, right? Now you can potentially watch the Giants win the World Series on a boat in McCovey Cove! Sure beats paying upwards of $500 a seat! As of yet, there have not been any restrictions posted for entry of the cove. During the All-Star game they had some extra security but you should still be able to get in there and enjoy the view. We'll keep you posted if we find out any new information.

The RendezBOO was a great success despite the weather forecast! Fifteen boats made the trip and a great time was had by all! The ride home was a bit of a challenge but we all made it home safe and sound thanks to great boats and awesome skippers. We are looking forward to our next adventure!

TODAY'S TIP

Keep an eye out for line that is worn, frayed, or compromised in any way. Line seems like a small detail; however, it does heavy duty work aboard your boat whether it is keeping your boat moored and/or anchored, holding your sails up or fending off bumps and scrapes.

NAUTICAL NOGGIN-BOGGLER WINNER!

We selected our winner randomly from the correct answers submitted. Don't miss your chance to dazzle us with your knowledge and win a prize!

Congratulations to Paul Koenig! Naturally Paul got this answer correct as he took and passed the Captain's License course last year. Well done Captain!

QUESTION:
There is a distinct difference in the meaning of the signals given by vessels in Inland vs. International waters. In a meeting and crossing situation where two vessels are in sight and within a 1/2 mile of one another, what does one short blast from vessel A indicate if it is operating on inland waters? What if it were on international waters? Please identify the distinct difference between the two meanings.

ANSWER:

A short blast by vessel A in inland waters indicates that "I intend to leave vessel B on my port side." If you were on international waters it changes to "I am altering course to starboard." Apparently, we're a little more polite in this country! :-)
