Greetings!
Charter sharing is such a great way to get out on a boat without breaking the bank. You also get to meet a bunch of new sailors and grow your buddy list.
If spending a day on a boat with strangers is a threatening prospect, consider these few things: - You're on a boat, where you LOVE to be!
- Asking questions helps break the ice - sailors typically love to share knowledge, so you're bound to learn something new.
- Good sailors are adaptable - if you don't agree with how someone does something, use it to start up a discussion and try to be open to different points of view.
- Humor is usually a remedy for any lull in conversation - pack a couple of jokes in your sailbag (have some kid friendly ones in case there are youngsters on board)
- When all else fails, refer back to number 1!

TODAY'S TIP Food can make it memorable!
Some of the most memorable moments on a sail are often the meals that we create and share. People love to show off their culinary skills. When planning your charter, be sure to delegate meals to specific people. For some extra spice, throw in a culinary theme for the trip. The theme can focus on a specific region, like South America or the Mediterranean, or it could also be for a holiday, like Labor Day or Halloween. Have fun with it! QUESTION:
You're weighing anchor and you
accidentally overrun your anchor and wrap your propeller with the rode.
The anchor is still on the bottom and you are dragging.
From the list below, identify all of the responses that might be appropriate for dealing with this situation:
a.
With the engine in neutral and not running, turn the prop shaft by hand
in the opposite direction from which the wrap occurred and see if you
can free the prop b. Rev the engine to break the line free c. Run in circles - scream and shout d. Beach the boat and wait for the tide to go out so you can unwrap the prop e. Put out another anchor to stop you from dragging f. If you have any hull cleaner, pour it down the drain to dissolve the line. g. Call Vessel Assist. h. Swim ashore and call Colin to tell him where you've left the boat. i. Get a ride home from the nearest passing boat.
ANSWER:
First, we would assess the situation and if we are not in any immediate danger of collision or of running aground, we would have a lookout on deck and with the engine in neutral and not running, we would turn the prop shaft by hand
in the opposite direction from which the wrap occurred to see if we could free the prop. If that didn't release the wrap, we would deploy another anchor to stop us from drifting any further and call Vessel Assist. Prop wraps are serious business and can cause major damage to your
engine and your boat. Don't ever try to remedy the wrap with force,
you'll only make things worse!

NOGGIN BOGGLER!
Reply to this email with your answer to the following nautical Noggin-Boggler. There is no need to change the subject line, simply hit reply and send your answer. Club Nautique will choose the winner for this week's Boggler randomly from all of the correct entries. Please respond by noon on Monday, August 30th.
There are so many great places in and around the Bay that you can sail to, tie up and within walking distance, enjoy a nice meal at a restaurant. This week's winner will name the most "culinary locations" within a day sail from either of our locations. A "culinary location" is a destination where you can dock your boat and reach a restaurant within walking distance - considering the average, healthy adult walks about 4mph, let's say that "walking distance" is roughly a mile, or a fifteen minute walk.
We're looking forward to your responses and hope that we learn something new! This popular destination is located across from Coast Guard Island in Oakland. This week's prize: $10 Boating Bucks good towards your next Charter!
Members can win a FREE pass to Hump Night by submitting a well researched Boggler that we publish. Your Boggler should be nautically themed, fun and not easily "google-able". Happy Boggling!

Chuck, Pat and Rich enjoyed a trip aboard our Caliber 40, Rapture. Thanks for the recap from Chuck and the photos from Pat. Looks like a great trip guys -thanks for sharing!
"Well, our three-man trip aboard Rapture this last weekend turned out to be a great success with new venues explored. In what may be a Club Nautique first (even Arnstein hasn't done this), we successfully navigated our way in and out of Tomales Bay after over-nighting at Bodega Harbor. Too bad the dock at Nick's Cove was too shallow for us to tie up and have brunch on Saturday.
In addition, we had the fun of dinner at the Casino Roadhouse in Bodega where they'll come pick you up at the dock (5-8 miles away) bring you back afterward, of a brisk 8 kph sail through the Bonita Channel on the way back to the Bay Saturday afternoon, and of deploying Rapture's whisker pole for a splendid wing-on-wing to China Camp on Sunday. And oh, we saw whales going and coming.
Great times! Thanks Pat and Rich. ~Chuck"
