Greetings!
This Saturday we're headed over to the Alameda Estuary to participate in the first annual "Fun Raiser" to raise funds for Alameda schools. Education is a topic that is very near to our hearts so we feel strongly about supporting their efforts. Join in the fun on Friday night for a kick-off party at Pasta Pelican (details are in the link below).
The "Fun Raiser" is also a perfect time to celebrate waterfront activities, take in some live music and enjoy a fun-filled day with the family. Daniel will be manning the Club Nautique table, so be sure to stop by and say hello!
The sun is making an appearance these days - we're awfully excited about that! We hope that you're able to take advantage of it when you can!

TODAY'S TIP Don't be a Wrapper!!! Wrapping your propeller can ruin your day! Lines can get wrapped around your propeller for a variety of reasons. Dock lines, mooring lines, anchor rodes, dinghy painters and running rigging can all put your prop in peril; and that's just the stuff hanging off your own boat. There are also crab pots, fishing lines, buoy moorings and other people's dock lines just waiting to get you. Prop wraps can cause anything from minor inconvenience to massive damage. In bad cases, prop shafts can be bent, struts can be cracked and motors can be ripped off their mounts. Avoiding prop wraps takes constant attention and vigilance. Here are some specific things that you can do to keep from being a wrapper: Always check for lines in the water before starting your motor. Take your dock lines in and stow them before you leave the marina. When anchoring or mooring bow and stern, appoint a crew member whose sole job it is to monitor the line off the stern and keep it out of the prop. When towing a dinghy, bring it up close to the boat when entering an anchorage or marina where you will be reversing and maneuvering. When underway, keep a lookout for fishing lines, crab pots and other lines in the water. Keeping your propeller free of wraps is sure to help you have a better day. (smiley face goes here...) |

NOGGIN BOGGLER!
Reply to this email with your answer to the following nautical Noggin-Boggler. There is no need to change the subject line, simply hit reply and send your answer. Club Nautique will choose the winner for this week's Boggler randomly from all of the correct entries. Please respond by noon on Monday, August 23rd.
You're weighing anchor and you accidentally overrun your anchor and wrap your propeller with the rode. The anchor is still on the bottom and you are dragging.
From the list below, identify all of the responses that might be appropriate for dealing with this situation:
a. With the engine in neutral and not running, turn the prop shaft by hand in the opposite direction from which the wrap occurred and see if you can free the prop b. Rev the engine to break the line free c. Run in circles - scream and shout d. Beach the boat and wait for the tide to go out so you can unwrap the prop e. Put out another anchor to stop you from dragging f. If you have any hull cleaner, pour it down the drain to dissolve the line. g. Call Vessel Assist. h. Swim ashore and call Colin to tell him where you've left the boat. i. Get a ride home from the nearest passing boat.
This week's prize is a West Marine Rigging Knife

Members can win a FREE pass to Hump Night by submitting a well researched Boggler that we publish. Your Boggler should be nautically themed, fun and not easily "google-able". Happy Boggling!
