Greetings!

In recognition of Father's Day, there's a "Father Load" of activity going on this weekend - starting with the "Father" of all sailing events, the Summer Sailstice Celebration! Summer Sailstice is a global celebration of sailing. The San Francisco Sailstice party is held on Treasure Island. There will be bands, Polynesian dancers, treasure hunts, sailboat rides, food and fun for the whole family. Enjoy the extended hours of daylight in the company of others who enjoy sailing as much as you do.

Club Nautique will be doing a drawing for a FREE Basic Keelboat lesson valued at $895 to be announced at the celebration at 5pm. You have to be at the party on Treasure Island to win, so come on by!

On Father's Day, this Sunday, June 20th, treat dad to a rare occurrence on the San Francisco Bay - a Russian warship, Varyag, may be accompanied by a Russian navy tanker Boris Butoma and the salvage tug Fotiy Krylov. PLUS, three Japanese self-defense force vessels are expected as well. If all six vessels arrive that day, it will be the largest number of foreign warships to call at San Francisco in many years.

Every year, we benefit from the celebration of Fleet Week. There are air shows, parades of ships and fireworks. This year, San Francisco Fleet Week will be bigger than ever!

In addition to paying tribute to the young men and women serving in the Naval Services, there will also be an emphasis on the naval services role in humanitarian assistance and disaster response.

Please attend a special benefit performance of Sandy Hackett 's RAT PACK SHOW.
The RAT PACK SHOW takes audiences on a journey back to the days of highballs, hi-jinks and happy hour with Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., Joey Bishop and Dean Martin. Sandy Hackett 's RAT PACK SHOW features the classic songs everyone knows and loves such as "For Once in My Life," "My Way," "Mack the Knife," plus original, never-before-heard songs written by the late Ron Miller.

All proceeds go to help fund Fleet Week. Thank you for your support!

Todays TipTODAY'S TIP

Don't forget to wish your dad a Happy Father's Day!

At fourteen, my Dad talked his father into buying a boat. From that time on their lives included various watercraft from row boats to cabin cruisers. Growing up, there has always been at least one boat in our family. The times that our family have spent on the boat are some of the fondest memories of my life. My father answered the desire in his heart to pursue boating and he passed that desire on to me and my siblings. Now we are raising another generation of little boaters - my nieces and nephews seem to have the bug as well. I'm so thankful to be able to share the love that we have for boating together and enjoy a pastime that has brought us closer together and kept us bonded over the years.

To all the Dads out there, we hope you have a wonderful Father's day getting to enjoy the things that bring you joy!

Happy Father's Day!

CLUB NAUTIQUE FEATURED ON LOCAL NEWS

When 16-year-old Abby Sunderland's attempt to be the youngest person ever to complete a solo, non-stop circumnavigation was cut short due to equipment failure, that didn't stop her drive to complete her journey. Amidst controversy as to whether Abby should or should not have continued on her voyage in one of the most dangerous times in the Southern Ocean, Abby forged on. When radio communication was lost and both of her EPIRB's were manually activated, there was worldwide concern for her safety. A local NBC news station contacted Club Nautique to talk about the dangers of offshore sailing and the equipment that you can use to keep yourself safe in the event of an emergency.

WARREN WHITE AND HIS GREAT PETALUMA ADVENTURE!

Our trip to Petaluma was outstanding! My crew included my wife, 2 sons and their girlfriends. We were celebrating my youngest son's 22nd birthday. We left Ballena Bay at 1100 hours on Friday under cloudy skies and made a quick stop at Pier 39 to pick up my oldest son and his girlfriend. We arrived at the Petaluma D Street bridge at 1825 right on time for our 1830 pre-arranged opening and had a couple of members of the Petaluma Yacht Club waiting at the dock to help get us tied up. After a long day on the boat we all enjoyed a night on the town.

Saturday we awoke to blue skies and temps in the 80's. We spent the day wine
tasting in style as we hired Classic Convertible Wine Tours (ccwinetours.com) to pick us up at the dock in one of their convertible 1947 Packard Limo's. They arranged for us to visit 3 small private wineries in Sonoma that were off the beaten path, had limited production and very good wines that ranged in price from $20-$120. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday afternoon. We were dropped back off at the boat where we enjoyed dinner on board and a variety of wines we purchased during the day.

We left the dock on Sunday at 0830 for a pleasant cruise down river and enjoyed 15-20kts of wind out on the bay on our way home. We charted Wind Symphony for her spacious interior and limited draft and her sailing characteristics and she performed flawlessly. On a scale of 1-10 I would give this trip an 11 and would highly recommend it even without the wine tasting.

Happy Sails!

Warren
