Greetings!
You don't have to be carried away to Oz by a twister to have a great adventure. When it comes to Northern California, there's no place like home. People travel from all over the world to vacation in the Bay area and we are lucky enough to live right here. We are even more blessed to be involved in sailing. Spontaneous weekend trips with friends and family can create memories that will last a lifetime.
There are countless great places to go right here in our own backyard. Within a two-day sail you can get to places that feel as far away as the Emerald City. Just think, as early as Basic Cruising you have all the skills you need to take boats through hundreds of miles of local waterways! Many of those waterways are just up-river in the Delta. Join us this Wednesday evening to learn about favorite spots in the Delta from Wizard Bill Wells.

TODAY'S TIP
Carry a local marina guide with you when you sail. A great resource for local sailing destinations is the Bay & Delta Yachtsman's Marina Guide. It's a free publication that you can pick up at most marinas. It's got the locations, websites and general information on all of the marinas around the Bay area. Club Nautique boats usually have copies on board, but grab a copy of your own and keep it in your sail bag to have for planning your next adventure.

BILL FITZGERALD
QUESTION:
You are on your CPM Tag-Along voyage and you receive an urgent call on the VHF radio from the boat on which your CPM Instructor is sailing. He says that he wants to rendezvous with you so that he can restock his Grey Poupon. His boat is exactly ten miles away, on a true bearing of 045. He is traveling due west at four knots. Your boat can travel comfortably at six knots in the prevailing sea state. What course should you steer in order to rendezvous in the shortest time, and what is your estimated time en route to the rendezvous?
ANSWER:
For the Famous Grey Poupon Rendezvous, the course to steer is 017 T. The Estimated Time En Route (ETE) is 1 hour 14 minutes.

CPM CORNER
Our first Coastal Passage Making class of the season didn't fail to deliver excitement. Challenging weather conditions and a tsunami advisory kept our crews on their toes. Everyone returned safely and with lots of laughs about the mystery alarm clock that was hidden on Thomas' boat.

NOGGIN BOGGLER
QUESTION:
At the end of a dead end slough, just up a short path, there is a place called Al's Place. Legend has it that founder Al Adami was a bootlegger in the Ryde area before he moved to Locke and became the first non-Chinese person to have a business in town. Al's Place is noted for serving peanut butter with French bread and for dollar bills tacked to the ceiling.
There is a beautiful protected anchorage shown in the picture below that is just a couple hundred yards down the path from Al's Place. What is the name of this anchorage?

RACING CORNER
Club Nautique's Midwinter racing program has crossed the finish line. Our Sausalito based Team Vixen (Lisa Perkin, Ravi Koka, Renee Kiml and Ryan Bruington, with coach Doug Perry) finished in the Corinthian YC Midwinters in 7th place. The series consisted of two races on each of two weekends in January and February.
What did we learn? Spinnakers are fun and winning races requires lots of practice!
The great thing about racing with Club Nautique is that -- like our tag line says -- You're at the helm! Stay tuned to learn more about how you can get out there and start racing!
