When I was a little girl of about five, my dad took me out for a sail on his friend's boat. Having been a powerboater for my vast career in boating up until that point, I had no idea what to expect. Even at five, however, I had a pretty clear idea that boats were supposed to remain upright. Let's just say, it didn't go well.
Fast forward to the present. This season I'm scaling the cockpit of a raceboat, on it's ear, to get my weight to windward. The transformation certainly wasn't instantaneous; it took some time for me to get over that fear. Not all of us are instantly comfortable with the heeling of a sailboat. But the more you learn and the more confidence you get, the more comfortable you'll become.
It's so satisfying to see people grow and become more and more confident. We are here to help you gain that confidence and to encourage you along the way. Before you know it, you'll be enjoying the feel of the heel!

Anchoring Clinic
|
|
Saturday, October 3rd 9am - 5pm Sausalito
***This Weekend*** 1 Seat available!
In this on-the-water clinic you will learn both basic and advanced anchoring techniques. The clinic covers anchoring equipment and theory, advanced scope calculations, target anchoring and the use of both single and multiple anchors. Specific scenarios that are practiced in the class include the use of bow and stern anchors, double anchors off the bow, Med-moors and anchoring under sail. Taught by Club Nautique School Director, Jim Hancock. Jim has anchoring experience from more than 16,000 miles of international cruising and his technical analysis of anchoring scope has been published in the popular sailing press. Jim only runs this clinic once or twice a year. This is a don't-miss for anybody interested in cruising or anchoring.

Today's Tip
|
| Help take the fear out of your crew.
If you have a crewmember who has never sailed before, tell them in advance about what to expect. Explain how the keel will prevent the boat from capsizing. Let them control the mainsheet and show them how easy it is to reduce the heel. Before you know it, they'll be "healed" of any fears they may have.
