Dreaming of the perfect boat is one of my favorite pastimes. Every boat is unique and special in its own way. Some are more "special" than others. But so far I haven't met a boat that I didn't like. There are all sorts of different shapes, sizes and styles to choose from.
One of the really cool things about chartering is that you can act like Goldilocks and find the boat that is "juuuuust right!" And sometimes, just right looks different for a sporty day-cruise, a romantic sailing weekend or an outing to impress the boss. Good thing you have a large variety of boats to choose from! And, if you do decide to take the plunge and get a boat of your very own, you'll know what works for you and what doesn't.
Now is a great time to think about getting your very own boat. Visit the boat show in Jack London Square and climb on board the beautiful new Jeanneaus and Hunters from Cruising Yachts. Find out how putting a boat in our fleet could help you realize your boat ownership dreams while getting charter revenue. And you and your boat can live happily ever after!

Coastal Cruising Adventure!
|
| October 25 - November 4th
Join Club Nautique's California Coastal Adventure Cruise. We will depart from Newport Beach on Oct 25 aboard one of our fully offshore equipped sailing vessels for an exciting cruise around Southern California before venturing north for home.
This will be an advanced trip organized as an educational adventure cruise with the security of a licensed instructor on board. It will be loosely structured, taking advantage of weather, student desires and the ultimate goal of having fun while learning and getting valuable near coastal sailing experience.
Photo by: Rod Witel Some possible destinations include Catalina Island, with its beautiful Avalon Harbor and Two Harbors; Santa Cruz Island, with its incredible caves that you can explore by dinghy; and the many beautiful marinas along the southern coastline, including Marina del Rey, Santa Barbara, Channel Islands Harbor and more.
Photo by: Rod Witel Along the way there will be opportunities to do some great fishing and swimming. Did you know that Southern California has some of the most incredible sea life around? Whales, sharks, dolphins, and sea turtles are just some of the aquatic life that you might see. At times you may think the dolphins are taking the trip along with you. We will navigate the Santa Barbara Channel with its busy big-ship traffic and incredible huge oil rigs. Have you ever caught a glimpse of the phosphorescence or a green flash? Come join us for the experience. After enjoying the warmer Southern California waters, we will put on our foulies and venture around Point Conception, the Cape Horn of the north. There will be some serious sailing, but if time and conditions permit, we can stop in to Monterey Bay and enjoy more incredible sea life, this time on our plates, during a visit to one of their fine dining establishments... Hope you can join us!
This voyage is open to CPM/OPM students and Grads. Ask us about CPM student positions.
CPM Students: $995 (class credit applied) Members: $1095/NonMembers: $1685
50% non-refundable deposit required to hold your seat. Book early. Only 4 seats remaining.

Today's Tip
|
| Wait until after your pre-cruise to load your gear and groceries on the boat.
It's a good idea to wait to load all of your gear and provisions onto the boat until after you have finished with your pre-cruise. That way, when doing the engine check, searching for thru-hulls, and locating equipment, you don't have to work around all of your loaded gear. It also saves time in the event that for some reason you need to switch to another boat.

It was a beautiful weekend on the water. Below is a recount of the last CPM weekend sent in by our latest CPM Graduate, Larry Oesterich. Congratulations Larry!
The weekend was outstanding.
Friday night was calm and balmy in Richardson Bay. Beautiful sunset.
Saturday was calm as we left the Bay. Winds picked up as we made our way out the shipping channel towards the Farallons. By the time we got out towards the end of the channel we had clear skies, mild temperatures, 20 - 30 knot winds and 4-6' swells. We sailed close hauled out to the Farallons. Numerous whale sitings. Turned south and went towards Half Moon Bay (HMB) on a deep broad reach. Winds moderated a bit to 20 - 25 knots, but the following seas increased to 6 - 12 feet. Winds calmed way down by the time we reached the Pilar Point buoy. Docked at HMB. Appetizers and white wine on the stern enjoying mild temperatures, beautiful sunset, and more seals and pelicans chasing anchovies (herring?) than I have ever seen before.
Sunday was light fog and light winds as we left HMB. As we got up beyond San Pedro rock the winds started to pick up. We caught-up to three other club boats, and of course, by definition, that made it a race. Close hauled to the shipping channel. Bear Boat spanked them (in part due to Meleah's aggressive turn at the helm). Once we turned into the shipping channel the winds started to fade, so we motored into the bay, where, of course, the sky was clear and the winds were brisk. We enjoyed a brief sail in the slot, and then took the boat home.
This was my sixth CPM and I enjoyed it a lot. The conditions were exciting, but not life threatening. We had a good crew, and the boat was well suited to the conditions. It was a great weekend.
