Wow, it's June! Before we know it we'll be wondering where the summer went. Don't let this season go by without taking advantage of all the great boating to be had out there!

Along those lines, Summer Sailstice is right around the corner. The whole sailing community gathers together to celebrate sailing and the longest day of the year. Charter a boat and join in the fun!

Congratulations to the Coast Guard for winning the first annual American Armed Forces Cup that was held here at Club Nautique this past Wednesday.

Today's
Tip

Today's Tip - Rocks!

San Francisco Bay is a boater's playground, but be careful not to skin your knee. Angel Island and Alcatraz both have rocks around them, and despite having buoys to mark the hazards, when the tide is covering the rocks it can be tempting to "cut the corner" and go inside the buoys. As a general rule you should avoid going between a buoy and the shore, since most buoys are there to warn you of danger. Two spots to avoid in particular are the northwest end of Alcatraz, marked by a green and red bell buoy, and Angel Island's Point Blunt, marked by a green, number 3 buoy. Have fun and enjoy your recess!

Nautical Noggin-Boggler
- WINNER!

We selected our winner randomly from the correct answers submitted. Don't miss your chance to dazzle us with your knowledge and win a prize!

Congratulations to last week's winner:
Rich Boehm!

Last week's Noggin-Boggler:

You are sailing close hauled and you notice that the inside telltales at the top of your jib are breaking before the inside telltales on the bottom of your jib. What adjustment can you make to correct this situation?

The answer:
Move the jib car forward. This creates a more vertical angle on the jib sheet, tensioning the leech of the sail and reducing its twist.

American Armed Forces Cup

Saying "Thanks" to our men & women in uniform

Armed Forces Regatta
In appreciation of the men and women in our Armed Forces, Club Nautique invited the Navy, Army, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard to participate in The American Armed Forces Cup! Each branch  sent three participants to compete head-to-head for the first annual American Armed Forces Cup perpetual trophy.

The teams were polite and courteous to one another but bragging rights were at stake, and as we understand it, some larger wagers were being made "under the rudder" so to speak.

While the racing was rather close, in the end, the Coast Guard reigned victorious. The Marines, who were not sailors, proved to be very fast learners, and came in a strong second! They were closely followed by the Air Force, the Navy and the Army. All teams made a great showing and did an impressive job out there!

This was a great experience for everyone. We were honored to have hosted the event and everybody is looking forward to next year!

Club Nautique instructor - Bryan Chavez, LTJG - Jesse Stewart, LTJG - Christiana Hawn, Coast Guard Cheerleader - Erik Swanson, and LT - Ryan Hawn
