Granny's Garden School
Teaching in the gardens
For these families,
volunteering in Granny's Gardens is a family affair.

The Daumeyer family is standing in the 15' by 30' triangle garden they adopted.  It is near the primary gym door entry and really needs some TLC.
This was the Hollingworth family's second night to volunteer.  They had family visiting for a sleep over and brought them down to visit the gardens.  They dug daisies and planted seeds for a couple of hours then they picked bouquets and had a go at the blackberry patch.
Adopt-a-Garden or just a section

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Granny's Garden School's gardens consist of 100, 3' x 10' raised beds that are used by the classrooms to raise vegetables.  These gardens are in five groups spread around the school grounds.  Each group of raised beds also includes flowers gardens which are used by the classrooms as well as for other purposes.
In addition to the five groups of class gardens, we have many large (i.e. perennial gardens) and small areas (i.e. elementary flagpole garden) where we grow perennial and annual flowers.
The students and Granny's Garden School volunteers and staff work to take care of the major needs of these areas.  What each area needs, though, is someone who can give them a little extra TLC.  It's that little bit of extra attention that makes the difference between beautiful and awesome gardens.
We are seeking individuals, groups, and/or families to adopt part of a flower garden area to nurture.  It does not matter if you are new at gardening or have years of experience.  We will work with you as much as needed. Please respond to this email if you are interested in learning more.
Make a donation and pick a sun flower
 The next time you shop at one of Blooms & Berries roadside produce stands, make a donation to Granny's Garden School and you can pick a sunflower from the display. While you are there, ask for a copy of Jeff's Producing Buying Guide.  It will help to answer the perpetual question of "How do I know if this watermelon is ripe." and is full of other produce buying tips.
 For a donation of $35 you may pick ten bouquets of up to 24 stems from Granny's Gardens.  The program is available June through October and includes flowers and herbs.  You may pick everything except sunflowers at any time that is convenient to you except during school hours.  You will receive a Pick-a-Bouquet Club membership card. It makes a great gift and is a great way to recognize a special employee or say "Thank you."
