Exclusive Tigers are Blooming in Granny's Gardens

Daffodils in the classroomTake time to notice 'Tigerdil' in front of Loveland Elementary School!  Take time to notice 'Tigerdill' in front of Loveland Elementary.  In the spring of 2007, Mrs. Konz's fourth grade class participated in a daffodil dissection activity with Mary Lou Gripshover, former president of the National Daffodil Society.

As a bonus to the activity, Mrs. Gripshover asked the class to name a new variety she hybridized.  The class selected 'Tigerdil' because its orange cup (also called corona) reminded them of our school colors.  Mrs. Gripshover registered the variety with the Royal Horticultural Society in Great Britain.  Since 1804, the Royal Horticultural Society has collected information about plants and has advanced horticultural practices.  In 1908, the first publication for naming cultivated plants consisted of a list of daffodil names.

TigerdilMrs. Gripshover donated all of the bulbs for 'Tigerdil' to Granny's Garden School for planting at LES.  In the fall of 2007, fourth grade classes planted around the flag pole and flower beds in front of LES.  This spring marks the debut of 'Tigerdil's bloom.  Take a look; you won't find them anywhere but LES!
