Greetings Golden Gaels Fan
coach

The Gaels are at home this weekend and are the feature game on University Rush football, broadcasted by The Score Television Network. The Score switched from televising the Western homecoming game to feature No. 4 ranked Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks vs. the No. 7 ranked Queen's Golden Gaels.

Both teams are undefeated heading into the match-up holding a 4-0 record and will battle on national television looking to defend their perfect records. This marks the second straight game the Gaels have been featured on The Score with the Gaels edging the Windsor Lancers last week 38-3 in front of a national television.

Saturday's game will also mark the 125th anniversary of Queen's Golden Gaels football. Special celebrations are being planned and kickoff will take place at 1:25pm (EST).

This week, Queen's defensive back Chris Smith was named the Canadian Interuniversity Sport defensive player of the week.

Smith, a second-year science student from Toronto claimed the defensive honour after tallying a game-high 7.5 tackles, including six solo hits, one sack and one interception that led to a Golden Gael touchdown in a 38-3 road victory over Windsor. The six-foot-two, 205-pound sophomore led a defensive unit that held the Lancers and reigning Hec Crighton Award winner Daryl Stephenson to 210 net yards of offence, including 97 through the air as Windsor quarterback Dan Lumley was intercepted three times.

They lost seven starters on defence, including a pair of first-team all-Canadian linebackers. They began the season with a quarterback whose intercollegiate experience numbered 14 pass attempts and about 30 minutes of playing time.

Surely this was the year the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks would be coming back to the Ontario University Athletics pack.

Think again.

Four weeks into the season and hurricane Laurier has cut a swath through the Ontario University Athletics football conference with no signs of abating.

The Golden Hawks' offensive rampage has roared through opposing defences to emerge as the nation's top-rated unit leaders in: total yardage (2,181); rushing yardage (1,297); and co-leaders (with Laval) in points scored (43 per game on average).

The No. 4 Hawks, who feature one of the country's deepest, most talented offensive squads, visit Kingston tomorrow for their biggest test of the season, a date with the undefeated and No. 7 Queen's Golden Gaels (The Score, 1 p.m.)

After many years of only the CIS Official Top 10 to gauge the strength of teams across the country two new polls have been added to provide more information and a different perspective.

In the past few years, College Colours has published a very entertaining Top 27 which looks to rank all football programs across the country on a weekly basis. We included the poll last year in our newsletter and will continue to do so this year

Please click here to see the poll.

This year, for the first time, the hard core and well informed fans of www.cisfootball.org have published their first initial poll. This weeks poll was conducted by 38 members with wide representation from across the country.

Please click here to see the results.

Of course, the Official poll as conducted by 15 members of the media was also published this week. Click here for the Official Poll.

The Queen's Golden Gaels are up against it this week against fellow unbeaten Laurier Golden Hawks. You know the Hawks, they're a powerhouse, nine feet tall and with long teeth hanging out of their mouths.br>
A few times each CIS football season a team will get a chance to make a statement. With a big win, or even, in some cases, a close loss the team can shut its detractors up.

For Queen's, that's this week.
