They're a tease, these Queen's Golden Gaels. For the third time this year they flirted with an opponent Saturday, leading the McMaster Marauders on, making them believe they had a chance to win a football game. Then the Gaels turned cold, scoring touchdowns on back-to-back drives barely four minutes apart in the fourth quarter, jilting their guests into a 24-20 defeat. These Gaels are 3-0 to start a season for the first time since 2003 yet even in so doing they've toyed with the emotions of their fans as well, tantalizing them with splendid displays of football yet frustrating them by wrapping that brilliance in layers of mediocrity. Don't look for a simple explanation. |

Adam Archibald stayed behind Saturday when the McMaster Marauders returned to Hamilton. He'll spend a couple of days at his parents' Bobs Lake residence recuperating from a concussion. Archibald was taken to hospital after the Marauders' football game with the Queen's Golden Gaels. "He's pretty out of it right now," Marauders coach Stefan Ptaszek said after the game, clearly shaken himself. "He feels awful. We're genuinely concerned for the young man's health." |

Golden Gaels edge Marauders 24-20 in
OUA grudge match at Kingston
Stories by Larry Moko The Hamilton Spectator Just call Queen's the king of comebacks. Queen's Golden Gaels rallied from an 11-point deficit in the final 14 minutes to defeat McMaster Marauders 24-20 before a crowd of 3,684 at Richardson Stadium on Saturday. Mac entered the Ontario University Athletics football contest still smarting from the opening round of playoffs last season. That's when the sixth-place Gaels mounted a similar come-from- behind effort for a stunning upset win at Ivor Wynne Stadium (down 17-6 at halftime). |
