Illinois Small Business Tax Credit
Small businesses that will have created jobs between July 1, 2010 and June 30, 2011, are eligible for a $2,500 tax credit for each new full time (at least 35 hours) hire. The credit is available to businesses with 50 or fewer full time Illinois and non-Illinois employees. New small businesses and businesses hiring their first Illinois employees may also qualify for the credit. The job must pay no less than $13.75 per hour or $25,025 per year with withholding taxes going to Illinois. Registration is available online at http://JobsTaxCredit.illinois.gov and should be done when each new employee starts. After one year, companies will receive a reminder to use that same web site to confirm that the job, not necessarily the employee, has been sustained and apply for their tax credit certificate which will be awarded July 1, 2011, for application against withholding taxes. The program is on a first-come first-served basis and is capped at 20,000 jobs. Note: rehires and those with an ownership interest of at least 5% are not eligible hires. |
