   Summer Float Drop

Restaurant of the Month: Vivian's Restaurant & Bill's Barbecue

Sisters and owners Monica and Ann treat you like family when you come to Vivian's Restaurant and Bill's Barbeque. The restaurant is light, bright and inviting. Go on in, sit yourself down and get ready to dig into some good ol' homemade comfort food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You'll enjoy large portions for every meal.

Darn near everything's made from scratch: Country sausage gravy, melt-in-your mouth buttermilk biscuits, slaw, potato salad, soups, hand-pounded chicken fried steaks, mashed potatoes, & sauces, and delicious salad dressings. Ribs, Brisket, Chicken, Turkey, and Pulled Pork - they have it all.

The smoked meats are hand-rubbed with their own secret blends, slow smoked in one of their two smokers, and served up with homemade barbeque sauces. Juicy steaks and burgers are made with Painted Hills all- natural beef. Seafood, chicken, pastas, vegetarian dishes, and award-winning clam chowder pretty much covers everyone's taste buds. Best of all, the desserts are homemade and big enough to share. Now that you know a little bit about Monica and Ann, go on in and ask, who the heck are Vivian and Bill?

Lighter portions and children's menus, Take Out, Beer, Wine, & Cocktails are also available.

Mutt Masters Recap

Mutts from far and wide come to to Lincoln City!

Mutt Masters Dog Show & Olympics was held in Lincoln City on Saturday, May 21st. Gorgeous weather held strong until the event closed and participants from out of state and out of the country made appearances to soak in some doggie rays and attention during the annual event.

Zack the dog
One dog in particular stole the show - Zack, a 5-year-old Chinese Crested. Zack and his family read about Mutt Masters online and decided to make the journey from Elizabeth, Colorado to Lincoln City for the event. Zack went on to compete and take first in the very prestigious award of Most Unique Looking Dog.

With $915 in gate proceeds and 200lbs of food going to the Lincoln County Animal Shelter and all registration costs going to DoveLewis, the Mutts and their owners went home for a much needed nap.

The following day on Sunday the 22nd the Lincoln City Parks and Recreation Department held the Inaugural Mutt Run/Walk 5K event for dogs and owners. With a great turnout of dogs and runners the event is slated to take place in 2012 and raise even more money for charity!  Lincoln City sure has gone to the dogs!

East Garden at Connie Hansen Garden

CHG East GardenThe East Garden addition to the Connie Hansen Garden, originally a boggy and rather unremarkable 7500 foot adjacent city lot, was donated to the Garden several years ago by a benefactor and remained largely undeveloped until funding was secured in 2008 through a generous grant from the Stanley Smith Horticultural Trust and donations from members and supporters. Clearing of the land, creek enhancement, and pathway and planting bed construction was accomplished by Central Coast Landscaping during the following fall and winter according to design plans drawn up by volunteer Lee Sliman with assistance from senior volunteer Pat Sears. Planting continued throughout the spring and the grand opening was held in June of 2009.

In the early months following development and planting perhaps the most remarkable feature of the new garden was the way in which the natural contours of the land and the inherent beauty of the creek meandering through it were skillfully enhanced by the addition of rock, berms and the shaping of the planting beds and pathways. After only two years what is now most striking is how the plantings are increasingly becoming the main focus for CHG East Gardenvisitors wandering the trail, as growth redefines and softens the original lines and shapes.

Focal points are the heather berm for amazing color and texture year-round, the rhododendron copse for lovely and rarely seen species and hybrids, the alpine terrace for tiny wonders at eye level and the dwarf conifer bed for its variety in color and form. Look for more plantings this year as volunteers add to the color palette with perennials and annuals that may not be found elsewhere in the Garden.
