New to Try: Coastal Encounters at the library!

Driftwood Public Library is hosting its 6th year of the Coastal Encounters series that takes place annually throughout the month of May. Speakers make a presentation and then lead a field trip later in the week. This year's lineup is as follows...

May 10: Stephanie Lushina and Danelle Lochrie will talk about breadmaking at 6:30 pm, followed by a field trip to Rockfish Bakery later that week.
 
May 17: Elaine McCracken from Cape Foulweather Coffee Roasters will speak at 6:30 pm. She will talk about coffee followed by a field trip later in the week to the roastery. 

May 25: Pat Morford of River's Edge Chevre and Tami Parr of the Pacific Northwest Cheese Project will talk about cheese at 6:30 pm, followed later in the week by a field trip to River's Edge farm.
 
May 31: Bill Lackner, author of Oregon's Clams, will discuss the art of clamming at 6:00 pm followed by a clamming trip to Siletz Bay on June 1st. Participants will meet at the parking area just north of The Bay House at 7:30 am.

Fish Taco Cook-Off - April 30

Fish Taco Cook-Off

             Come taste the best fish taco of the Northwest!

 

In honor of "Cinco de Mayo" join us during this event where Chefs from throughout Oregon will compete to take home the title: Best Fish Taco. 

 You are the judge! The winner is chosen by people's choice.  

 

There will be a live cooking demo by Graciela Polley,

a local chef from Mexico, and Sweet Xpressions will provide fresh churros for sale.

 

Cost at the door is FREE! Small tacos are only $1 each.

 

This annual event begins at 11am and wraps up at 2pm at the Culinary Center in Lincoln City at 801 SW Hwy 101, 4th floor. For more information, call 800-452-2151 or 541-996-1274. 

  

Mutt Masters Dog Show & Olympics - May 21

On Saturday May 21st, the annual Mutt Masters Dog Show and Olympics will be held in Lincoln City.For humans there will be human food booths and booths with pet-related information, gifts and goodies. Bring the whole family, even if you leave the mutt at home.

 

Spectator suggested donation is $5 per person, kids 12 and under get in for free. A bag of dry pet food will also get spectators in for free. All dry food will be donated to the Lincoln County Animal Shelter. Other donations will also be accepted inside the event. 

 

On Sunday May 22nd, be sure to stay over and join us in the inaugural Mutt Run! Registration starts at 8AM with the Run beginning at 9AM. For more information, call 800-452-2151.

Art Sea Festival - June 11

Art Sea Festival is back and it's bigger than ever! 

 

Two locations provide more art and live music! SW 51st Street in the Historic Taft District and Lincoln City Cultural Center 540 NE HWY 101 in Lincoln City will be hubs for art hubbub!

 

Brought to you by the Lincoln City Visitor and Convention Bureau and the Lincoln City Cultural Center, the Art Sea Street Fair is open to all art mediums and invites Plein Air Artists to set up along the beach on SW 51st Street  and paint.

 

Other events include Sky lanterns Saturday night on the bay front, live music, Young at Art Kids Recycled Castle, Chalk it Up on 51st Street, free caricatures by Deena Printz and more! Call us at

Summer Kite Festival - June 25 & 26

Kite fliers from across the Northwest will be gathered at the D-River Wayside on June 25 & 26 for the 27th Annual Summer Kite Festival in Lincoln City - a celebration of both professional and leisure kite fliers with some of the most colorful big "show kites" in the world.

 

The 27th Annual Lincoln City Summer Kite Festival theme is "Rockin the Rokkaku". The featured fliers at the festival will demonstrate their flying skills throughout the weekend. Local kiteflier and past Rokkaku Battle National Champion, Ronda Brewer will be the center of attention with her many decorative Rokkaku kites, are you looking for a battle? Ronda will not turn and run.

 

Island Quad and iQuad are standing by with their Revolution quad-line kites. Watch as they perform a group "ballet" that Summer Kite Festivalsurely will mesmerize the audience. The Pacific NW group Suspended Animation along with Dave & Susan Gomberg, Phil & Barbara Burks and Rod & Cindy Thrall will display the "big" stuff, while Jerimy Colbert will fly deltas. Gary MacEachern, the one man kite team and Penny Lingenfelter with her kid-friendly skits will also perform during the Summer Festival.

 

Scheduled activities will include kite making for kids, a kid's parade, running of the bols Penny's kid friendly kite skit and a Rokkaku Battle.

 

The fun begins at 10 am and runs through 4pm both days in Lincoln City, where the flying is never finer. Visit our website for complete details and schedule of events!

Call for Artwork Entries

Calling all photographers, painters, textile artists, wood carvers, sculptors and artists of any other form --- the Lincoln City Visitor and Convention Bureau (LCVCB) wants you!

 

The LCVCB in partnership with the Lincoln City Cultural Center has issued a call for entries for an artwork display & silent auction for the Fall Kite Festival to be held October 8 & 9, 2011. The theme of the art work  focuses on anything kite related, be it an actual art kite that flies or a bronze sculpture that depicts a kite, to anything in between. Participants therefore enter this display/silent auction in agreement that the LCVCB be allowed to auction all pieces entered and half the proceeds be donated to the Lincoln City Cultural Center, the other half to be given to the participating artist.
