Winter Happenings & Reflections

 Winter Tree
Greetings!

CHEARS is launching a monthly newsletter to keep residents of the Chesapeake Bay watershed updated and informed about our projects and events.  From Bedford County, Pennsylvania (farmland) to Greenbelt, Maryland (urban and suburban households) to Chincoteague Island, Virginia  (coastal areas) ; CHEARS is sponsoring a diverse array of projects that relate to  our mission linking the environment, arts, and education. In our 6th year as a non-profit and as a vehicle for other community based organizations, we strive for healthy communities through citizen action. We hope to see you at our events, workshops, festivals, river clean-ups, and organizing/potluck meetings!

Sincerely,
Kim Walsh ~ Executive Director

Lore Rosenthal
Lore Rosenthal Accepting Green Man Award

Maggie Cahalan presents the annual CHEARS 2010 Winter Solstice-Green Man award to Lore Rosenthal.   The CHEARS board decided to recognize  Lore for her abiding commitment and hard work on so many environmental projects in Greenbelt and the wider Maryland community including  Clean Currents, Greenbelt Climate Action Network (G-Can),  the new Solar Collective, Green Aces support, Simplicity Matters, and  organizing re-skilling workshops connected to Transition Towns Initiative along with support of Three Sisters Gardens. CHEARS wanted to especially recognize Lore for her spirit of inclusiveness and  skill in mentoring and bringing out the talents of others, and her openness and honesty in conflict resolution and problem solving. Collaborating across diverse groups and connecting folks with different styles and needs is invaluable to our community as we work together for a more sustainable and healthy future for all.
