Rare seal box with original hardware used by a Chinese scholar. The mortise and tenon, walnut box frame is fitted with a hinged, lift-lid cover and has two doors opening to reveal an oak interior upper compartment for writing implements, over three short and one long oak drawer. The plain sides are fitted with bail handles. The face has finely engraved rectangular metal hinges. The metal hinges have etchings of mushrooms and/or clouds. Minor restoration is advised for two areas on the lid hardware. Can be used as a coffee table or placed at the foot of a bed.
