Chairman's Note by Michael Huneke michael@bartowgop.com
Election Day is now less than a week away. The campaign commercials are running about every minute of the day, and it is now time for us as the electorate to make our decision and send a message to Washington, D.C.
Every vote matters and every vote will send a message. We, the electorate, need to help turn out the vote and be sure that November 2nd turns out the highest vote count ever in a mid-term election.
It will take all of us to make it happen and sweep the state constitutional seats for Republicans for the first time in Georgia history. Many of the seats have never been filled by a Republican,
Why vote Republican? Because right now they are listening and will continue to listen if we continue letting them know not only of our displeasure, but also let them know when they do what is right. November 2nd is just round one, so go out and vote. and while I am not saying that Republicans are the answer, we must take back our country with our votes on November 2nd and afterwards we must hold them accountable. |

State & Local

*****************************
Congratulations to State School Superintendent candidate John Barge (one of Bartow County's own!) for another endorsement...this one from the Savannah Morning News. ------------------------------------- With Republicans anticipating making major gains in the midterm elections, some House seats right here in Georgia, long thought safe for the Democrats, are now looking like strong possibilities for a GOP pick up. They include Sanford Bishop's seat (D-Albany), John Barrow's (D-Savannah), and Jim Marshall (D-Macon). If the Republican Party can pick up a lot of these Democrat-held seats in conservative or conservative-leaning districts, November 2nd could be a historical election for Republicans, and a good start to undoing the damage done by the ultra-leftist Democrats. ______________________ Uh oh! Democrat gubernatorial candidate Roy Barnes was recently busted for doctoring post-debate video footage of Nathan Deal leaving the forum. Barnes dubbed in questions shouted at Deal to make it appear that he was refusing to answer questions. Luckily, the media called him on it and confronted him. ---------------------------------- According to at least one newspaper, prospects for the Republicans making a clean sweep of all statewide Constitutional elected offices is looking pretty good right now. Such a huge victory would be a massive improvement for the state. *****************************

Greetings!
As we near the end of October, we await with joyful anticipation seeing the signs of the season. The autumn air growing crisp, the leaves starting to change colors, and the diverse array of the walking dead, adorable with their moans and cries, their angry growls and frightful glares, begging for handouts and treats from the grown-ups. But enough about the Democrats before election day...we have Halloween to plan for!
With less a week before election day, Republicans are eager for the results at the polls. Two years ago Republicans were anxious and somewhat dejected. We had an uninspiring presidential candidate that was getting shellacked by a nonsense-spouting, inexperienced charlatan. Predictions of 40-years of Democrat rule and the death of conservatism were the order of the day. There was not much to look forward to, and core Republicans were faced with the prospect of being relegated to the political wilderness for the foreseeable future.
Of course, no one anticipated the depth and speed with which President Obama, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Majority Leader Harry Reid would drive their party and this nation to the goal of a socialist, statist, ultra-liberal agenda. No one was anticipating TARP, endless bailouts, stimulus, son of stimulus, grandson of stimulus, and of course, ObamaCare. No one saw through that crystal ball the takeover of the domestic auto industry, or of insurance, finance and student loan industries. No one saw a president that would openly insult our allies while appeasing our enemies.
In short, no one foresaw the dismantling of America's heritage in such a short time. They had voted for a man in the hopes that he would bring change to the political process. He promised to be post-racial, post-partisan, and to change the toxic atmosphere in Washington. Instead, he has become the most racial, most partisan, most toxic president in memory.
On November 2nd, Americans have the opportunity to go to the polls and take away his partisan supermajorities. We have the opportunity to block the advancement of his agenda, defund many of the items that he has signed into law, and prepare ourselves for the 2012 elections.
To the Republican grass roots, however, a word of caution. We have spent the last year or so more actively engaged than we've been in my lifetime. We have talked to friends and neighbors, shown up at town hall meetings, called our elected officials, gone to rallies, and started reading the Constitution again. If the Republicans gain as many seats as anticipated, that will only have been the first step. Republicans had power before and they became co-opted by the lure of power and the perks that go with it. They forgot their principles. It is our job to stay as actively engaged with, and demanding of accountability for, Republicans as we have been with the Democrats. We are at a crucial juncture, but the momentum is with us. Let's make the most of this opportunity. |
Though Republicans are expected to make significant gains in the legislature in November, it is highly unlikely that the margins will be such that we can overcome a presidential veto. But while we may not be able to repeal ObamaCare during this cycle, we can defund it to prevent its full implementation.
The more Americans get a look at the new law, the more Nancy Pelosi is proven incorrect. Americans are seeing what's in it, but they do not like it. And little wonder. Some of the results we've seen so far: The White House is now admitting that ObamaCare will raise the cost of health care for seniors, and the popular MediCare Advantage program will see its budget slash and benefits become "less generous". Boeing Corporation, the titan of the domestic aerospace industry, recently reported that health insurance costs will be going up, and benefits cut, for more than 90,000 of its employees. The reason? The bring the value of the benefits package for its employees below the level at which a 40% luxury tax kicks in. So, the net result of ObamaCare for these employees it to increase their healthcare costs and reduce benefits. Now that is change you can believe in! |

The Economy, Taxes and Deficits
The economic news has not gotten any better as we approach the elections. The stimulus package has been an utter failure, at least if the purpose of it was to stimulate the economy. Of course, for those of us that actually researched the bill, it was immediately obvious that the bill never had anything to do with stimulating the economy in the first place. It was simply the funding of a huge liberal wish list of programs and policies that they have been trying to pass for decades but could never get through the legislature. While estimates vary, the consensus is that there is between $2-3 trillion dollars in private capital that is sitting on the sidelines, for all intents and purposes just gathering dust (with interest rates near zero that money sure is not gathering much else). In the mean time, unemployment has been near 10% for 18 straight months, job creation is anemic, and we've set an all-time record for the number of Americans on food stamps. We seem to have very short memories in this nation. The Keynesian economic model is a massive failure, yet we keep trying it. And as successful as the Reagan/Friedman model has been, leading to a quarter century of economic growth and job gains, we keep allowing it to be demogogued and vilified. The free market, in which free individuals make free choices, has been and continues to be the best avenue for economic growth, with the added benefit of costs being driven down even as quality of goods and services go up. It's time to go back to it. |

National Defense
For Americans, and for those around the world that cherish freedom, the world continues to grow more dangerous. Iran is driving hard to attain a viable nuclear warhead and delivery system. North Korea continues to threaten its neighbors. Venezuela is increasingly hostile to the U.S., and Russia seems willing to help them all.
One threat that needs more attention is the threat on our southern border. Our law enforcement agents are being shot at on our own soil by illegal alien smugglers, kidnappers and drug runners. This administration has steadfastly refused to secure our border and protect our citizens from foreign invasion, which is exactly what we are dealing with. This is an actual, enumerated power of the federal government, and the primary responsibility of the president. Failure to do so is an abdication of his duty. Please continue to contact your elected officials and demand that America's borders be protected. |

Must-See TV
This is pretty funny...RightChange animates a montage of Obama talking about his "Top Priority".
This is one of the most heart-wrenching, inspiring stories I've ever heard. Gianna Jessen survived an abortion attempt, and now suffers from cerebral palsy. She now is a pro-life advocate and unapologetic disciple of Jesus Christ. It is well worth the time to watch.
Union members are bussed in to protest at the RightNation rally where Glenn Beck is speaking. Andrew Breitbart confronts them and asks them what they are protesting about, and the idiots leave after none of them are able to articulate WHY they are protesting!

The White House is defending President Obama's sports activities over the past week, saying that everyone needs leisure time. Thanks to these economic policies, 9.5% of Americans have all the leisure time they need. - Jay Leno

I met a fairy today who said she would grant me one wish. "I want to live forever," I said. "Sorry" said the fairy, "I'm not allowed to grant wishes like that!" "Fine," I said, "I want to die after the Democrats get their heads out of their tails!" "You crafty devil!" said the fairy.

Jimmy Carter told CBS News that Senator Teddy Kennedy killed his health care reform bill thirty years ago to deny him credit for it. Don't blame the senator. The health care reform bill knew better than to get into the car with Teddy when he'd been drinking. - Argus H.

Their Guy...
Our Guy...
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I recently asked my friends' little girl what she wanted to be when she grows up. She said she wanted to be President of the United States . Both of her parents, liberal Democrats, were standing there. So I asked her, "If you were President, what would be the first thing you would do?" She replied, "I'd give food and houses to all the homeless people." Her parents beamed.
"Wow...what a worthy goal," I told her. "But you don't have to wait until you're President to do that. You can come over to my house and mow the lawn, pull weeds, and sweep my driveway, and I'll pay you $50. Then I'll take you over to the grocery store where the homeless guy hangs out, and you can give him the $50 to use toward food and a new house."
She thought that over for a few seconds, then she looked me straight in the eye and asked, "Why doesn't the homeless guy come over and do the work, and you can just pay him the $50?"
I said, "Welcome to the Republican Party." Her parents still aren't speaking to me. |

Reading for Extra Credit
Keeping Up With the World of Politics, Government, and the Social Issues of the Day .
CEO's of major corporations such as Verizon and Intel are lashing out at Obama for his anti-business, politically polarizing rhetoric. The Obama administration is being described as "amateur hour" in Washington, and blaming Obama's policies for the extended economic downturn.
Here's a fun game (at least until you realize the seriousness of it)...read the following statements and then see if you can guess who made them. Your choices are President Obama, CAIR (Council of American Islamic Relations), Hamas, The New York Times, the Washington Post, or the Pakistan Observer. On something as serious as national security and defending innocent American lives, shouldn't we be able to differentiate between the words of our enemies and our supposed friends and countrymen? |
