Chairman's Note by Michael Huneke michael@bartowgop.com
Please spread the message to your friend and family that we need to get out and vote come November. Much is at stake both nationally and in the state. Georgia is slated to pick up at least one U.S. House seat due to redistricting, and there are several Democrat-held seats that are in play for Republicans to pick up. None of that can happen if we don't get out in vote. One of those crucial votes is in the governor's race. We have Republican majorities in the state House and Senate, but a Democrat governor could really cause a lot of headache with redistricting. Every vote counts. Make sure you commit your friends and neighbors to get out and vote! Please spread the message to your friend and family that we need to get out and vote come November. State & Local

*****************************
Congratulations to Darrell Galloway, who was just elected as the new chairman for District 11, and thanks to Jason Shepherd for the time and effort that he put into fulfilling that role before making the decision to step down to run for the state House.
-------------------------------------
There has also been a lot of controversy over the debt obligations recently revealed by Rep. Nathan Deal, and how that may impact the likelihood of people to vote for him. There is a lot to be considered, but I came across a very interesting perspective from Nathan Deal's daughter, Katie ("Now It's PERSONAL"). *****************************
We have local grassroots groups here in Bartow that share our desire to see conservative government regain power. Please support the efforts of the Bartow Patriots as often as possible. Greetings!
This has been a fascinating political season so far. No one could have predicted what we are seeing today. Less than two years ago, the Republican Party was being written off, predictions of 40 years of Democrat rule was common, and the death of conservatism was being proclaimed and celebrated by the political Left. My, my, what a difference 19 months makes.
The Democrats have used their massive majorities in both houses to shove an ultra-liberal agenda down the throats of the American people, and the people are not happy about it. This disdain for the will of the people has led to an uprising against the Democrats, who expected their agenda to be hailed and praised with unending gratitude. Instead, it led to angry town hall meetings, wins for Republicans in liberal strongholds, and the rise of the TEA Party movement.
Even some of the Republican establishment has been taken off gaurd by the rise of the TEA Party movement and the primary wins for the candidates it has backed. I think that is a great thing. We now have outstanding and outspoken conservatives running in the general election. Conservatives like Marco Rubio and Jim Miller and Alan West. Many Republican leaders may not want to hear it, but Republicans got killed in 2006 and 2008 because they abandoned conservative principles, not because they embraced them. I think the new blood is welcome, and it will be great to expand the ranks of those calling for, and insisting on, limited government, lower taxes and a return to the Constitution.
Another thing to keep in mind is that the conservative message is a positive message. It is one that proclaims a belief in the fundamental goodness and potential of man. It is one that proclaims that man should be free to pursue his own goals without interference from government, provided it does not infringe on the rights of others. It is one that allows a man or a woman to sacrifice their blood, sweat, tears and capital to develop an idea, and then reap the rewards when it succeeds, instead of villifying the successful, confiscating their earnings and calling them greedy.
In just over a month we'll have an opportunity to go to the polls and express our will. The media and the Left portray us as heartless, greedy, racist, bigoted, environment-killing, oppressive, hate-filled people, but nothing could be further from the truth. We love our fellow man, we love our country, and we love our God. We just want to be left alone to pursue our dreams, whether we succeed or fail. So for the next month we need to be talking to friends, family and neighbors and spreading that message. Ours is a message of hope rooted in our own divine nature, in a belief in our God and the greatness of America. It is a message that resonates powerfully. We've had to oppose this administration's efforts because they are destructive to freedom, but if we regain power we must have a positive message to share. We can still be that shining city on a hill that Reagan spoke of, if we take up the fight with resolve and with a smile on our face. |

It seems like ObamaCare is not the gratitude-inducing entitlement expansion that the Democrats thought it would be. In fact, it has gotten so bad that 3/4 of the money spent by Democrats running ads including ObamaCare is spent coming out AGAINST the bill! It seems that Democrats and Obama are so disconnected from reality that they thought that the American people, after expressing their desire for it not to pass, would soon wise up and take the bitter medicine and realize how good it is for them. Well, they were wrong.
Each passing day seems to reveal a new detail about the law that makes it even worse than we thought. We've learned about the IRS Form 1099 requirement (which requires businesses, all of them, to issue a 1099 for EVERY vendor with with they do more than $600 in transactions annually...and the National Small Business Administration is estimating this will increase the number of 1099's filed for the average small business from 10 currently to 86 under the new law). We are also learning that once the accounting gimmicks are stripped away, the 10-year cost of ObamaCare is projected to be $3 trillion or more! The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services released a report recently which revealed that the cost of implementing ObamaCare will cause costs to rise by 6.3% annually (and we know that government never underestimates the cost of a program, right?). In 2014, once all provisions of the law are enacted, costs are expected to rise by 9.2%. So much for bending the cost curve downward. Instead, ObamaCare is a launching pad for cost inflation.
This is all the more reason to make sure that Republicans, especially conservatives, are elected in November and then in 2012. There is a tremendous amount of damage that will need to be repaired. |

The Economy, Taxes and Deficits
President Obama and the Democrats look more and more insane as they try to stem the coming bloodbath at the polls by bizarrely claiming the "stimulus"bill to be a success, even as "Recovery Summer" has seen unemployment stay near 10%, market uncertainty continues, we have anemic hiring numbers in the private sector and exponentially more debt. Despite the fact that there was $150 billion set aside in the first stimulus for infrastructure, President Obama is now calling for another $50 billion in spending on "Roads, Railroads and Runways".
Of course, due to a little noticed executive order shortly after he was inaugurated, virtually all government projects must use union labor or pay prevailing union wages, which significantly increases the cost. And none of this spending will be paid for with cuts anywhere else, and will therefore result in even higher deficits. It has gotten so bad that even some senior Democrats, like Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska, are calling on President Obama and Congress to extend the Bush tax cuts, the failure of which will lead to higher taxes on all of us.
President Obama this month gave us a brief glimmer of hope that he may finally be beginning to understand basic economics when he proposed making permanent the research and development tax credit signed by President Ronald Reagan (a man who truly understood the principles of economics) in 1981, as well as a one-year tax write-off for business-related capital expenditures. Both of these things would make an immediate impact on positive economic growth.
There is a catch though... the capital expense credit expires in one year, and the R&D credit AND the capital expenditure write-off would be paid for (in the lexicon of politicians) by closing loopholes in other areas, specifically as it relates to the oil and gas industry. In other words, raising taxes. So we are left either with zero net gain, or, due to the size of the oil industry, further economic losses.
Even more bizarre is the fact that, as we rocket faster and faster towards a fully government-controlled, centrally planned economy, after more than half a century of this model, Cuban president Fidel Castro declared that Cuba's communist model has failed, and is turning towards the free market to try to reduce the squalor and non-productivity of his own little communist hellhole. In an interview with Jeffrey Goldberg in the Atlantic magazine, Castro said that the "Cuban model doesn't even work for us anymore."
So...Cuba tries free enterprise, Canada and Britain exppand privatization of their health care systems, Germany cuts taxes and sees strong economic growth...and Obama and the Democrats are dead set on implementing the government/economic model that everyone else is abandoning likes rats off a sinking ship. Makes perfect sense.

National Defense
I would not have thought it possible to have a more feckless and irresponsible national security implementation that the one presided over by Jimmy Carter, but once again, Barack Obama has proven me wrong. It started early on with an alienation of our traditional allies (especially Britain and Israel), a policy of groveling, apology and appeasement towards our enemies, renegging on an agreed upon missile defense shield with our Eastern European allies, a policy of open borders even though we have clear proof that Middle Eastern men are crossing into the U.S. through Mexico, mixing in with the other illegal immigrants. Each day seems to reveal more proof of this dangerous abdication of the president's most important duty...to protect and defend the American people from hostile invasion.
Despite the fact that there are millions of illegals in this country right now, the Obama administration not only fails to fulfill its constitutional duty to protect the borders, but it files lawsuits to prevent the states from correcting the failures of the federal government. The Obama administration has sued to block Arizona's SB1070 law regarding illegal immigration, but they are also suing Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County, known nationwide for his strict, no frills, no nonsense treatment of prisoners, and also known for cracking down on illegals in AZ.
To make matters worse, on August 20th, Assistant Secretary of Immigration and Customs Enforcement John Morton sent a letter to ICE's head of removal operations in which he stated that the agency will no longer be deporting aliens solely on the basis of being in the country illegally. In essence, since Obama has been thwarted in his open-borders, amnesty for illegals agenda, he will simply bypass the Congress and refuse to protect American citizens or enforce the current law. Encouragingly, this failure to do their duty and enforce the law has so infuriated ICE workers and agents that they have released a vote (by a unanimous 259-0 margin) of "no confidence" in the agency's leadership. This has never occurred before among members of a federal union, and is to be commended. Even if leadership does not see the big picture, at least the workers do.
In a separate incident, the Obama administration has quietly made the decision to stop the prosecution of the al-Qaeda leader behind the bombing of the USS Cole (which killed 17 sailors, injured more than three dozen others, and severely damaged a U.S. military vessel). The reason? Because the Obama administration, including Attorney General Eric Holder, refused to prosecute a terrorist in a military tribunal before terrorists held at Guantanamo Bay began having civilian trials. This is despicable political ploy and a slap in the face to the families of the slain soldiers, to the military, and to every American that believes in justice.
Finally, on the international front, even as Iran has now officially gone nuclear, continuing to process low-enrichment uranium and working on perfecting a delivery mechanism, Obama takes a posture of appeasement and the U.N. mulls over new worthless sanctions that will be laughed at by Iran and likely blocked by China and Russia. Iran continues to refuse access to IAEA inspectors for the Khondab Heavy Water Reactor.
To compound the danger, the Obama administration has negotiated the New START treaty with Russia, which reduces America's nuclear arsenal while leaving Russia's intact, severely restricts our ability to maintain and upgrade an aging stockpile of warheads, and maybe most importantly, crippples our ability to continue development of a defensive missile shield, even as Russia is becoming more aggressive on the world stage, Iran works to develop a nuclear bomb and delivery system, and China continues its massive military build-up. What is confounding is the fact that three Republicans, including Senator Johnny Isakson (R-GA) voted to send the treaty out of committee for ratification by the full Senate. I've contacted his office for an explanation but received only a form-letter type response. Hopefully the Senator will offer more clarification on the matter, and if he does, I will be sure to publish his response. |

Must-See TV
This can't be good...Obama sits in on a hand-picked town hall meeting and then takes friendly fire from a woman who says she is "exhausted of defending you".
Boston-area school children go on a field trip to a mosque and then are coerced into praying to Allah.
Bernie Marcus, co-founder of Home Depot, unloads on Obama and the Democrats and calls them anti-business, saying that they are doing to business what Debbie did to Dallas...ouch!
Ann Coulter points out that every single attempt to hijack an American airliner has been done by a Muslim male, and that singling out Muslim males is not profiling, it's called a description of the suspect.
A highly entertaining rant by a young black man in response to Obama's whining about Republican criticism. |

Good News and Comic Relief
A Thank You Letter from Michelle Obama America, For only the second time in my adult life, I am not ashamed of my country. I want to thank the hard working American people for paying $242,000 (plus a few hundred thou in additional expenses) for my vacation in Spain. My daughter Sasha, several long-time family friends, my personal staff and various guests had a wonderful time.
Honestly, you just haven't lived until you have stayed in a $2,500.00 per night suite at a 5-Star luxury hotel. We only booked 70 rooms for our friends, staff and family. Thank you also for the use of Air Force 2 and the 70 Secret Service personnel who tagged along to be sure we were safe and cared for at all times - with our 13-vehicle convoy.
Air Force 2 only used 47,500 gallons of jet fuel for this trip and carbon emissions were a mere 1,031 tons of CO2. It costs only $11,500 per hour to operate Air Force 2 and each additional plane for the other members of our party group. These are only rough estimates, but they are close (who's counting?). That's quite a carbon footprint as my good friend Al Gore would say, so we must ask the American citizens to drive smaller, more fuel efficient cars and drive less too, so we can lessen our combined carbon footprint.
I know times are hard and millions of you are struggling to put food on the table and trying to make ends meet. I do appreciate your sacrifice and do hope you find work soon. I was really exhausted after Barack took our family on a luxury vacation in Maine a few weeks ago. I just had to get away for a few days. Will write more from Martha's Vineyard where we will spend our sixth vacation this year with more of our family and friends. With Gratitude, Michelle Obama

God, The Atheist and the Bear An atheist was walking through the woods. "What majestic trees!, What powerful rivers!', 'What beautiful animals!", he said to himself. As he was walking alongside the river, he heard a rustling in the bushes behind him. He turned to look. He saw a 7-foot grizzly bear charge towards him.
He ran as fast as he could up the path. He looked over his shoulder and saw that the bear was closing in on him. He looked over his shoulder again, and the bear was even closer. He tripped and fell, rolled over to pick himself up but saw that the bear was right on top of him, reaching for him with his left paw and raising his right paw to strike him.
At that instant moment, the Atheist cried out: "Oh my God!" Time stopped. The bear froze. The forest was silent. As a bright light shone upon the man, a voice came out of the sky...
"You deny my existence for all these years, teach others I don't exist and even credit creation to cosmic accident. Do you expect me to help you out of this predicament? Am I now to count you as a believer?"
The atheist looked directly into the light, and said: "It would be hypocritical of me to suddenly ask you to treat me as a Christian now, but perhaps you could make the BEAR a Christian?"
'Very well', said the voice.
The light went out. The sounds of the forest resumed. And the bear dropped his right paw, brought both paws together, bowed his head and spoke..."Lord bless this food, which I am about to receive from Thy bounty through Christ our Lord, Amen." |

Reading for Extra Credit
Keeping Up With the World of Politics, Government, and the Social Issues of the Day .
Dinesh D'Souza offers a fascinating insight into how Obama thinks, delving into his multicultural upbringing, the impact of his absent father on his life, and his decision to take up the fight against colonialism, and how it all ties into his apparent disdain of American exceptionalism and loathing of the free market.
This administration's economic policy is so bad that even Democrats are backing away from him. So far though, Obama is steadfast in his refusal to extend the Bush tax cuts, despite the fact that a failure to do so will further damage the economic recovery.
Only government...under the ObamaCare law, businesses will now be paying taxes on their taxes. |
