State/Local News
Many Georgia counties were devastated last month by historic flood waters that rushed through the state, destroying tens of thousands of homes and taking almost a dozen lives. Locally, the Austell area was hit hard and Bartow also received its share of damage.
If you were affected by the flood there are ways to get help. Rental and home repair assistance can be received by qualified applicants by calling FEMA to register at 1-800-621-FEMA, or by going online to www.disasterassistance.gov.
New Jobs for Georgia
This is welcome news! Shaw Industries recently announced that it will be expanding its manufacturing operations in Calhoun, creating up to 200 new jobs.
IVC Group, a Belgian Flooring manufacturer, will be locating its first U.S. plant in Dalton, which will bring $70 million and 115 new jobs over the next three years.
There will be job growth in other parts of the state as well, with Pratt & Whitney, a manufacturer of jet engines, bringing hundreds of jobs to the Columbus area. Wiregrass Power, a renewable energy company, will be building a plant in Valdosta, bringing 25 jobs and $110 million to the area. And Mitsubishi Power Systems will build a steam and gas turbine plant outside of Savannah, bringing in 500 jobs and $325 million.
In other news, the College Football Hall of Fame will be relocating from Indiana to its new home in Atlanta, eventually bringing needed jobs and revenue to the state.
Other News
Georgia's largest teachers union is suing the state for cutting the supplemental pay received for being a National Board Certified Teacher, affecting about 2500 teachers statewide. . Despite the fact that state revenues have dropped precipitously, obviously they think they should be immune from the struggles of the private sector. Maybe they should be reminded that their salaries are being paid for by the same private sector taxpayers that are struggling to keep their jobs and homes right now.
Georgia Senate Majority Leader Chip Rogers has been asked to testify in Washington on job growth in Georgia, the effects of massive debt on job creation, and free-market alternatives for economic growth. |

Greetings!
With each passing month we are seeing the price America will pay for electing to the highest executive office in the land a community organizer with no prior executive experience, who came to power on the mindless mantra of "hope and change", lifted to that position by support from unions, radicals and ultra-liberal organizations...not to mention a solicitous media all too willing to genuflect at the altar of the Obamessiah.
What has Obama given us? Rising unemployment, a business community uncertain about the future and therefore unwilling to hire new employees or make capital investments, partial nationalization of the financial and automotive industries, a pro-abortion policy, a global apology tour by our leader bemoaning the unfairness of America's greatness, a weakening of our military and intelligence capabilities, unilateral disarmament, appeasement of brutal regimes, and a complete loss of the prestige of this nation around the world. Now, not only are we not respected, we are laughed at! The Chinese are lecturing us on fiscal responsibility and we are getting lectured on security issues by the French! All this in less than a year in office. Heaven help us.
Can we bankrupt the country? Yes We Can! Can we appease terrorists, dictators and thugs? Yes We Can! Can we drive businesses and therefore jobs overseas? Yes we can!
The fundamental principles which have been the foundation on which this nation's greatness was built are under heavy attack by the political left. For those of us who believe in the Constitution, who believe that this nation was ordained by God to be a beacon of freedom to the world, who believe that we as individuals and families are the strength of this country, we must now be more active than ever in defending these principles. For decades we have sat silently, grumbling among ourselves, as we watched the gradual erosion of individual freedom and the growing encroachment of government into our lives and our wallets. We have reached a breaking point. Without a massive and sustained backlash from the American people, this country will complete the long slide into socialism, and this great experiment in freedom will forever come to an end. America has long been the bulwark against tyrants, and if she will falls, who will take up that banner? No one. That is why we must re-engage in this process and take our government back. |
Solving America's Problems...One At Time
We have heard repeatedly from Obama and the Democrats that Republicans are the party of "No", that they have no ideas of their own and seek only to block anything that their political opponents seek to accomplish. I do not believe that to be true, but I decided to prove it by solving one of our nation's longest-running and most bitter social battles...the issue of abortion.
This may be a backdoor way of accomplishing our goals as conservatives and Christians (and most other religions), but maybe one way to see abortion ended in this country would be to through abstract reasoning. This is something that should have widespread approval since our liberal friends use meandering reasoning to justify what conservatives consider abuses of eminent domain, the commerce clause, the (legally non-existent) separation of church and state, and so forth.
As concerning abortion, since many radical feminists claim that forcing a woman to carry a child to term is an act of violence mandated by a patriarchal society, it would therefore be a reasonable argument to make that the unborn child is an instrument of violence in the advancement of an ideology (the child has a natural survival instinct and could therefore reasonably be assumed to be "pro-life"). The unborn child, usurping the life force, energy and nutrients of the mother, and therefore a portion of her life, in the advancement of its ideological goal (birth), could then be defined as a terrorist.
You then have only to go to the abortion clinic, call the ACLU and give them the address, and tell them that this facility is summarily executing terrorists before they have been afforded legal counsel and a trial by a jury of their peers. Since the APA has written in amicus briefs to the Supreme Court (Roper v. Simmons) that defendents under 18 should not be eligible for the death penalty due to the fact that MRI's have shown that the area of the brain that controls the decision-making processes involved with impulsivity, risk-taking, long-term consequences, etc., have not fully developed until around the age of 25, defendents under 18 can not be fully responsible for those actions and should therefore be exempt from the harshest punishment afforded by law.
Under that reasoning, unborn children should not be eligible for execution, and should be afforded the opportunity to reach at least 18 years of age at which time they can then be tried for their crimes in the womb. If we follow this process then abortion will truly be safe, legal, and most importantly...rare.
See...we conservatives ARE problem solvers. It's what we do. |

Despite massive resistance against the Obama-Democrat health care reform efforts, the fight still continues. Democrats were hammered at town hall meetings around the country as thousands and thousands of constituents showed up during the August recess at meetings and at marches and rallies in order to make their voices heard. That is not even including the hundreds of thousands (estimated to be as much as 1.5 million) that showed up to protest big government in Washington, D.C. Despite these protests, Democrats are still hell-bent on passing this legislation. Why would they continue to push for something that is so massively unpopular? That would be because they know that once they get nationalized health care system implemented, it will give them a stranglehold on 17% of the U.S. economy, and therefore a massive new source of power over their servants...um, I mean...voters. Can you think of one major government program that has been reduced or eliminated once it was implemented? Neither can I. These politicians know that their power will be secured once they literally get the power of life and death over the people.
Democrats claim that they are doing this to provide better health care delivery, expand coverage and reduce costs. However, their actions expose this as a blatant lie. When Humana sent out a flyer to their insurance customers explaining how the Democrat plan would reduce coverage and drop enrollees, Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus issued a gag order on Humana and other insurers forbidding them from criticizing the Democrat plan. Of course, AARP, which supports the health care takeover by government, was not included in that gag order. Then again, they didn't need to be...the AARP stands to gain tens of millions of dollars even while the seniors they represent get reduced care. If this is such a good plan why will they not post the text of the bills for the public to see, and why do they have to deny First Amendment rights to get it passed?
The worst part of it all is that Democrats are defending a bill that they have no idea what it includes. In an interview with CNS News, Senator Thomas Carper (D-Del.) said "I don't expect to actually read the legislative language because...the legislative language is among the more confusing things I've ever read in my life". He continued on to say that he doubts that his colleagues in the Senate would read it either because the bill was "incomprehensible" and "hard stuff to understand". So why in the world would you pass a bill that you can't even understand, when passage of the bill literally means life or death for people?!!
Republicans have attempted to introduce amendments that would put into the law some of the claims that Democrats have made in an attempt to make the bill more palatable. Among the amendments that were rejected by Democrats are:
- an amendment blocking illegal aliens from being eligible for benefits (Heller).
- an amendment to certify that benefits under the Medicare Advantage Plan would not be cut. (Hatch Amendment #D7)
- an amendment to enact tort reform, which has significantly reduced medical costs in each state where it has been enacted (Amendments introduced by Cornyn, Ensign and Kyl). Obama said that he would "consider" a pilot project to determine the effects of tort reform, but there has already been one...Mississippi. Mississippi was once the Valhalla for trial lawyers looking for a huge payout, but those huge payouts caused medical care to skyrocket. Since Governor Haley Barbour enacted tort reform in 2004, malpractice claims have plummetted by 91%, causing insurance premiums to drop by 42% for the state's largest insurer, with an additional 20% rebate.
- an amendment banning a federal health care rationing board (Kyl Amendment D7)
- an amendment requiring that the legislative language of the Senate Finance Committee bill be posted publicly 72 hours prior to a vote. (Bunning amendment #C4)
- amendment to lift the gag order imposed on insurance providers by Senate Finance Committee chairman Baucus on comments critical of the bill (Kyl amendment)
- rejected an amendment that would remove the government-run "public option" from the House bill, which would eventually run private insurers out of business and create a government monopoly (Ryan).
- require all members of Congress get their health care through the government "public" option (Heller).
- Waive the employer mandate if it will cause layoffs, worker salary cuts, or reductions in hiring (Reichert).
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
As if that were not enough, even though Obama claims that mandatory insurance is not a tax, his plan calls for a $25,000 fine and up to a year in jail for those that fail to get insurance and/or pay the penalty. Is anyone else thinking right about now that Orwell was more prophet than writer? |
The Economy, Taxes and Deficits
As anyone with even the most rudimentary understanding of economics could have predicted, the Democrat combination of high taxes, massive deficits, enormous spending increases by government, and anti-free trade policies have turned out not to be the prescription for a healthy economy. At some point Obama is going to have to stop talking about the "crisis [he] inherited" and take responsibility for the devastating effect his policies have had on the American economy. Deficits are climbing to astronomical levels, unemployment is almost 10% nationwide and as much as 15% in some states (and around 40% for those in the younger generation that helped Obama win), banks continue to fail, and we are being chastised by the flippin' Chinese!...about the need to rein in our spending habits.

Informational Miscellany
Proving once again that with his administration the politics will dictate the policy, the Obama administration is cutting 384 Border Patrol agents serving on the U.S.-Mexican border even though we only control, at most, 35% of the border. That means less agents to deal with illegal immigration and easier transit for the drug cartels.
The Obama administration plans to give $400,000 to a charity run by the Qaddafi family. The grant would fund an effort to "project a new and positive image of Libya". Hey, here's an idea. How about starting by eliminating support and training for terrorists? So what will the tag-line be? How about "Libya...We're Everywhere You Want To Be(headed)".
New York City police were able to thwart an attempt to bomb the NYC subway system with information gained through use of the Patriot Act. Does this mean that Bush gets credit? I doubt it.
Rumor has it that the Democrats are seriously considering implementing a European-style VAT tax on top of all of the other taxes we are currently paying. They like this tax because it occurs at points of production, meaning that it is built into the price of a retail product and not seen by the consumers. This has been discussed for months but looks to be gaining traction. They now realize that they have caused such massive deficits that even taking 100% of the income from the most wealthy would only dent the deficit, and the middle-class will have to be taxed to make up the difference. This allows them to tax the middle class but still avoid the blame.
Many states, including New York and California, are learning the hard way that raising taxes in a down economy is a dangerous proposition. This is even more true when you raise taxes on the rich, who are most able to respond by moving to more tax-friendly climates. Both of these states and several others have seen the rich leave their states, thus reducing tax revenues even more. Ironically, even traditionally socialist nations seem to be learning the lessons we refuse to learn. Sweden has issued yet another tax cut in an effort to boost job creation.
Speaking of lessons not learned, Democrats are seeking to expand the Community Reinvestment Act, which led to the proliferation of subprime mortages, and eventually the failure of major financial institutions that were either bailed out by taxpayers or failed. Obviously crippling the economy was not enough and now they are trying to turn us into Cuba North.

...and Justice For All?
Attorney General Eric Holder created a few headlines a while back when he called America a nation of cowards that was afraid to deal with issues of race. Then he doubled down and campaigned for giving rights to terrorists, and at the same time prosecuting our intelligence agencies for the inhuman crime of...GASP!...getting tough with terrorists during interrogations. Obama and Holder want to jail CIA agents for using sleep deprivation, loud music and uncomfortable positions in order to get information that would save us from future attacks by people that killed 3000 Americans on 9/11, beheaded reporters, murder and rape women and children, among other things. Apparently the way to defeat the terrorists is by putting them in a 5-Star hotel with a personal chef and chocolates on their pillows at night. When it comes to actual justice, Holder has little to say. Otherwise, where is his outrage when the victims are not blacks or terrorists? For example:Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and the rest of the race pimps all showed up to lead protests against the prosecution of the "Jenna Six", who had actually committed crimes. But where was the moral outrage for the murderers of Channon Christian and Christopher Newsome? Chandra and Christopher were a young, white couple from Tennessee that were carjacked after leaving a restaurant one evening. The kidnappers were four black men and a black woman. They took Channon and Christopher to a rundown rental house, where Christopher was beaten, sexually assaulted, shot in the back of the head and then set on fire, his body left by railroad tracks.
Channon was repeatedly gang-raped, beaten, choked and had industrial cleaning chemicals poured down her throat to destroy DNA evidence, and was then wrapped in plastic, her body dumped in a trash can. Where was Holder's outrage, or Jackson's or Sharptons? Are viscious crimes of this nature noteworthy only when the victims are black or hispanic or homosexual? The Jenna Six were all over every news channel for weeks, with candlelight vigils held for those thugs. Yet outside local Tennessee papers and the conservative alternative media, this story received no coverage. Not ABC, not CBS, not NBC, not the NY Times, not CNN, not the Washington Post.
More recently, several black boys were captured on school bus video beating a white boy repeatedly when there was clearly no provocation. Not only did we not hear about this from Obama or Holder or Jackson or Sharpton, but less than a week later a second white boy was beaten by black boys. Again, no response from black leaders. Oops...I take that back. Local St. Louis race pimp B.T. Lewis blamed Joe Wilson and white anger at having a black president for the attacks. Huh? White resentment causes black kids to attack? At the time of publication I have not been able to confirm reports that Obama said that the white boys had acted stupidly, or that he planned on holding a junior summit with the boys, where they would sip Yoo-Hoos and discuss issues of race and reconciliation.
In a story that seems to have completely escaped mainstream media attention, the Holder-led Justice Department has quietly dropped charges against members of the New Black Panther Party, who threatened and intimidated white voters as they prowled in front of voting precinct stations while dressed in black paramilitary uniforms and carrying night sticks.
What is disheartening is that these black leaders seem to have a vested interest in keeping race tensions stoked for no other reason than their own personal gain. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton especially have made a good living off of it. The irony is that the same people who love to quote Martin Luther King, Jr.'s speech about dreaming of a day when people are judged not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character are focused solely on skin color, and ignore the fact that these actions are wrong regardless of skin color, not because of it. Then again, judging by what we have seen of their character, maybe it is wise for them to keep us focused on skin color. |

National Security and Defense
Democrats have a long and undistinguished track record of being weak on issues of domestic security and national defense. This president and this Congress are unfortunately no different. From their prosecution of the war fronts in Iraq and Afghanistan to protecting Americans on our own soil, they have been spectacular failures. Quite possibly that is because they have failed to accurately define the nature of this conflict. Maybe they should stop attacking tax and government spending protesters as right-wing terrorists, brown-shirts and Nazis (which is inaccurate anyway because Nazi's were members of the German National Socialist Party), and instead focus on the long line of men with dark hair and skin, with names like Mohammed and Omar and Abu, who take flying lessons but not landing lessons or who buy enough hydrogen peroxide to treat the boo-boos on every skinned knee in America. But no, instead they choose to go after war veterans and grandmothers and suburban housewives fed up with their government.
So what exactly has this president and Congress been up to when it comes to protecting our security?
After handpicking General Stanley McChrystal to head up the war in Afghanistan, the Obama administration has chastised him because of his inconvenient report that without a troop surge our efforts will fail within a year. Why inconvenient? Because after campaigning on Iraq being a quagmire and the wrong war, and Afghanistan as the "war of necessity", Obama is getting blowback from the radical left, his most loyal base, who want to see us out of the war completely. Taking the coward's way out, Obama has "temporarily shelved" the report while they "review strategy", the same strategy that Obama held a press conference about several months ago claiming the review was complete and they had a comprehensive plan. Obama is learning the hard way that you may be able to win an election by changing direction with poll results, but it is much harder to govern that way.
We might be able to overlook this obvious error if he were doing well in other areas, but the fact is he is not...not by a long shot. From the prosecution of CIA interrogators to giving terrorists access to U.S. Courts as if they were nothing more that pickpockets or car thieves, to abandoning our allies to appease enemies or at least adversaries, Obama's huggy-kissy-ket's make-up defense policy is putting America at great risk. Obama, in the last few months, has left Poland and Czechoslovakia vulnerable by backing out of a European missle defense shield that would have protect them and other U.S. allies and interests from Iranian missles and Russian aggression. It seems it was more important to play nice with the bullies than protect our friends. This was compounded by Obama's decision to gut the U.S. nuclear arsenal, a massive deterrent for hostile enemy action, blocking efforts to develop next-generation weapons, and limit the conditions under which the U.S. would use the weapons. This, like Obama's decision to abandon harsh interrogation techniques for terrorists, basically announces to the world that we will do very little to protect ourselves from their aggression. Not exactly a winning strategy.
This is a mind-numbingly foolish strategy to employ in a world filled with ideological madmen seeking the destruction of the free world and the ushering in of rule by a supreme Islamic caliphate. Even as Palestinians continue to fire thousands of rockets into Israel from land that Israel unilaterally ceded to them in attempt to gain peace, Obama weakens our ally Israel by announcing to the world that the U.S. does not recognize the "legitimacy of continued Israeli settlements". In essense, he is saying they we don't believe they have the right to build houses on their own land.
A few weeks ago Obama stood and addressed the U.N. in the latest installment of his global apology tour. In it he claimed apologized for America's unilateral engagement in Iraq (you know, other than the other 35 nations that joined us), downplayed Chinese human rights abuses and virtually ignored the Iranian threat. He did say that he "pledge[s] that America will always stand with those who stand up for their dignity and their rights", unless that is, you are Jewish, an Iranian protesting a fraudulent election, or a Honduran trying to follow your Constitution and protect the country from takeover by a leftist dictator. Then? Well, not so much. On the bright side his speech was praised...by Fidel Castro and Muammar Qaddafi. This speech was followed by speeches by Qaddafi and Iran's Ahmadinejad, and you can pretty much figure out what they said. It seems that the only leader with a spine was Israel's Netanyahu, who blasted the speeches and the world leader's that sat and listened to them, and rightly called it a "disgrace of the U.N. Charter". There was also France's president Nicholas Sarkozy, who mocked Obama at the U.N. Security Council for being foolish and naive when it comes to defense.

The Culture of Corruption...it's the Democrats Turn!
We seem to have reached a point where we are seeing so much corruption that, like prolonged exposure to movie violence and sex, our ability to be shocked wears off and we are left to just shake our heads in disbelief.
In the last newsletter I reported about ACORN being busted on tape helping what they thought were a pimp and a prostitute as they tried to bring underage girls from El Salvador for child prostitution, as well as helping them avoid taxes. Well Democrat Bonnie Fwank...er, Barnie Frank, is OUTRAGED!...and demands an investigation...into the conservative filmmakers who busted ACORN. Sounds about right for a guy that used to run a gay prostitution ring out of his basement. He was joined in his demand by fellow senior Democrat John Conyers.
After "green jobs czar" Van Jones was forced to step down recently, another Obama appointment is under fire. "Safe Schools Czar" Kevin Jennings is now facing scrutiny for advocation of promoting homosexuality in schools, writing about past drug abuse, and failure to report an incident where an underage student had gay sex with older men. He also received criticism when it was revealed that a homosexual advocacy group he founded, GLSEN, held an educational seminar for kids that graphic and deviant sexual techniques. Now that is change we can believe in.
Democrat Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charlie Rangel's tax troubles are growing, but calls for him to step down has so far been ignored. To no one's shock, Pelosi and all of the other Democrats that called for any Republican to resign if they were charged with so much as jaywalking have suddenly found a new respect for due process and the concept of innocent until proven guilty. Rep. John Carter (R-TX) introduced a bill that would let all American's invoke the "Rangel Rule", in which people caught evading taxes would get the same treatment from the IRS as Rangel, namely paying no late fees or penalties and avoiding prosecution. Must be nice...
Remember the outrage that liberals and Democrats had about warrantless wiretapping and eavesdropping on terrorists' phone calls. I guess those worries are past with those scrupulously honest Democrats in office. How else do you explain the White House justifying collecting personal data from comments to the White House website and from social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace, and YouTube and Twitter. The Washington Times points out that Obama promised to protect us from this kind of invasion of privacy.

A Little Good News and Comic Relief
If you watch the news or follow politics too closely, it's easy to forget how much good is in the world. So take a few minutes to enjoy the good and laugh a little as well..
Congratulations to President Barack Obama for his stunning achievement in being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize after only nine months in office. Some conservatives and Republicans are saying he doesn't deserve it, but I vehemently disagree. Building on the legacy of past winners like Yassar "Death to the Jews" Arafat, Jimmy "Brutal dictators make my naughty parts tingle" Carter, Al "I invented the internet and became massively wealthy on the global warming scam" Gore, The IAEA and Mohammed El-Baradei (Iran has no nukes, Iran has no nukes...oops, my bad, they have nukes), the UN IPCC, and other such noted luminaries, Obama indeed qualifies. Just look at his accomplishments...abandoning our allies (Israel, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Honduras), weakening our military, denigrating America's good works, appeasing dictators (Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, North Korea, Libya), giving terrorists unprecedented rights and crippling our ability to thwart their efforts to kill us, hobbling our economy (massive deficits and new regulations, growing unemployment, massive new entitlements and welfare programs, etc.)...yes, I think he has more than proven he deserves the award.

Reading for Extra Credit
Keeping Up With the World of Politics, Government, and the Social Issues of the Day
Nobel Prize winning economist and free-market champion Milton Friedman discusses the danger and misery of socialized medicine.
In New Hampshire, a court ruled that a home-schooled girl must attend a government run public school because she has "sincerely held religious beliefs".
The justification is that the girl's development needed "exposure to
different points of view" (she is a Christian, but I'm positive that
has nothing to do with it). This despite the fact that her curriculum
was developed by certified teachers, was approved by the school
district, and that she took standardized tests. She even attending the
local public school weekly for classes in art, Spanish and physical
education. No word yet on whether Muslim students will be required to
attend synagogue or atheist student to attend Christian schools...you
know, just to round out their educational experience. The Great Global Warming Scam continues to get exposed and debunked. The MSM has virtually ignored two recent stories that reveal truly inconvenient truths. The first is that Professor Mojib Latif, one of the world's leading climate modelers, whose work was the basis for UNIPCC policy, recently conceded that the Earth has not warmed for nearly a decade and is likely to continue to cool for 10-20 more years! The other story is that leading climate scientists have been caught falsifying or destroying data that does not support the global warming theory. Your consumer dollars at work... Pepsi has funded a Chicago Gay Pride organization that inludes such services as seminars on how successful gay adoption, and one on "recruitment and engagement" for homosexual causes. Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream also got in on the act by changing their "Chubby Hubby" flavor name to "Hubby Hubby" in a celebration of gay marriage. Very good article, in a San Francisco article no less. The writer looks at the current Democrat concern and calls for civility over "You Lie" and the TEA Parties, and asks... where were these calls for civility when Bush was president? | |
