No monthly meetings in December due to the observance of the Christmas holiday |
This past Saturday at our Bartow County Republican Meeting, we had a great discussion about the Health Care bill that is threatening our freedom with Stephen Northington, candidate for Insurance Commissioner. If you missed our meeting, you missed a good discussion that could have gone on for hours. After this past Saturday's meeting, gathering of some information over the past several months and finally beginning to read the book The 5000 Year Leap by W. Cleon Skousen, I am truly starting to believe that the health care take over by the federal government is just another step in losing our freedom. If the federal government can take over the health care industry, banking system, energy and education, they would totally control everything and we would cease to be a free country. We have already seen them take over banking, pass through the House Cap and Trade (energy tax) and attempt to push through a Health Care takeover. The last one left will be education, and that one is slowly and silently already being restructured using the current budget crisis to get state and local systems to accept money in exchange for a little bit more loss of freedom and local control. Soon you will be seeing bills going through Congress in relation to education and the federal government will be taking even more control from the states.
These very reasons are why our local and state officials being elected next year (2010) are so important. If they do not start standing up to the federal government and asserting our 10th Amendment rights as a state, our local officials won't matter anymore as they will have given all of their powers to the federal government and we as citizens will have nowhere to turn.
The good thing is, we are a few years away from that now, and we can reverse the direction we are heading. First, get involved in politics (meetings, TEA Parties, etc.). Second, read and educate yourself on our true history (I have been surprised in my studies just how much I do not know or had been taught incorrectly). Third, find an issue you care deeply about and learn everything you can about it and what Congress is proposing about it. Then, write to your representatives about that issue and let them know your thoughts. We can't roll over now and let our freedom be taken from us, as a sleeping giant has been awakened, We the People. |

Greetings!
Well people, there is some good news coming from Washington. Despite the fact that Democrats hold a commanding majority in the House and a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate now that class-clown Al Franken has been sworn in, they have still not been able to push through passage of the nightmarish bill being sold under the misnomer of health care "reform". Of course, President Obama (peace be upon him) is not doing his cause any favors when he tries to assuage our fears about government health care by comparing it to the Postal Service (he actually used the example of FedEx and UPS thriving compared to the Post Office as a reason to support his plan).
This is not reform but rather a wholesale dismantling of the world's best health care system in favor of a system that provides less quality care but more government control. And that is what the Democrats want more than anything...government control (and yes, I know that I am not supposed to start a sentence with and). Why do Democrats want control? In large part because they relish the power, but it is also because the Democrat/liberal elite, the intellectuals, the policymakers, just can't stand the thought of a free market where hundreds of millions of people make individual choices each and every day as to what is best for and most important to them.
Why does that bother them so much? Well, because the thought of all of those millions of people out there, wandering the paths of life blissfully unaware of their intellectual inferiority when compared to the more enlightened, compassionate liberal elite, making decisions based not on what is best for society as a whole, but (GASP!) on what is best for them and their families; this is the liberal equivalent of being strapped to a chair in a classroom, completely naked and covered in honey as a swarm of ants is released into the room (for the conservative equivalent replace the honey and ants with massive speakers blaring a never-ending loop of politcial commentary shout by Jeaneane Garafolo, Keith Olberman and Al Gore). They just can't stand the thought of all of these slow, dim-witted commoners making their own decisions.
Too bad. The American people seem to have finally begun to awaken from their slumber and realize the massive dystopian existence that faces them under the Democrat plan. A system which replaces individual and family decisions with dictates from unelected, unaccountable government bureaucrats. A system where decisions are made based on what these bureaucrats deem to be your net worth to society. Are you a 57-year old sanitation worker in need of angioplasty? Too bad, because you can be easily replaced and are therefore not deserving in government eyes of public resources. You think I exaggerate? Then you need to brush up on the writings of one Dr. Ezekiel Emmanual, Obama's chief adviser for public health care policy, who has written repeatedly that health care resources should not be wasted on those that are not considered productive contributors to society.
The people of this country seem to have finally realized that the hope and change they voted for is much different than what they are getting. That is shown in Obama's plunging approval ratings and the spontaneous uprisings by average citizens at town hall meetings across the country. People are starting to find out the details of the bills that Obama and the Democrats have so studiously avoided presenting to the public. The Democrats are in disarray because, even though they need not one single Republican vote to pass anything they want, the "Blue Dogs" (52 Democrat House members from conservative leaning districts) are getting scared at the thought that they will lose their jobs if they vote for this bill, especially after they already have a strike against them in voting for the bailout bills. Congress is in their August recess and they need to hear from us. They need to know how we feel, if for no other reason than to stregthen their resolve in the fight against government encroachment. We need to call these officials, even those not within our districts. For example, Senator Charles Grassley (R-IA) has been working with Democrats to craft a bill that can get enough votes to pass out of the Senate. This means an atrocious bill with just enough pork to buy off votes of wary legislators.
We have them backpedalling and on the defensive. Now we need to keep the pressure on and let them know clearly that we want no part of a health care system where government is heavily involved in decision making. There are many ways that health care can be improved (eliminating mandates, tort reform, conversion to electronic medical records, reducing fraud in the Medicare/Medicaid systems, etc.), but an increase in heavy-handed government involvement is not the way. In 1961, Ronald Reagan stood up to oppose yet another attempt to socialize medicine, and he warned us that "One of the traditional methods of
imposing statism or socialism on a people has been by way of
medicine. It's very easy to disguise a medical program as a
humanitarian project. . . . Now, the American people, if you put it
to them about socialized medicine and gave them a chance to choose,
would unhesitatingly vote against it." Looks like the Gipper was right all along.

Health Care Reform
As I mentioned above, Obama and the Democrats seem to have been caught off guard, and are actually stunned at the opposition of the American people, completely befuddled that the unwashed masses would so blithely reject the wisdom of their intellectual benefactors. Well, they are so shocked and filled with disbelief that they have been forced to come face to face with the true reason for this uprising...Republicans and insurance companies.
With a sigh of relief they concluded that the uprising is not from the American people at all, but paid stooges of the Republican Party and insurance companies who are seeking to disrupt this glorious transformation of our medical care system for their own greedy and nefarious purposes! Oh, those wicked minions of hate, those paramours of perversion, those followers of the Cult of the Prince of Darkness himself (Reagan)! A pox upon you all for your malevolent and odious attempts to thwart progress upon the path of righteousness and liberal nirvana (sorry, I should not have used the word righteousness...that implies the existence of good and evil, which any good liberal knows is a creation of the right...there is no good or evil, simply different cultural realities that should all be given proper respect...which can be attested to by Muslim women beaten for the offense of being seen in public with a man not a husband or blood relative).
Here is what the Democrats and liberals have been saying about those showing up at town hall meetings to oppose ObamaCare:
- We are "un-American' (House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer)
- We are "angry mobs" (ad released on 8/5 by the DNC, encouraging people to call the RNC to complain...in a brilliant counter-move, the RNC added a menu option for inbound calls to "press one" to voice concerns raised by the DNC ad, and those calls were then forwarded back to the DNC switchboard).
- We are "too well-dressed" to be legitimate protesters, and are just out to "hurt our president". (Barbara Boxer, D-CA...of course, with most of her constituency being "naturally-scented" hippie throwbacks, it is understandable why she would be confused by protesters familiar with soap and the concept of a hairbrush).
- We are pawns of the insurance companies (Sen. Dick Durbin, D-IL)
- We are swastika-carrying Astroturf (fake grass roots protesters) swarming town hall meetings (Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-CA)
- We are full of "manufactured outrage" (White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs). He should know; he gets to witness it in action every day.
- Rep. John Dingell (D-MI) said that the protesters reminded him of the Ku Klux Klan protesting the civil rights bill decades ago. Of course it was a bit embarrassing when the only sign of racism turned out to be a Dingell supporter carrying an Obama-as-Hilter sign to illustrate the hate from the other side.
Not to fear America, your president will not let this kind of subversive activity go unchecked. That is why, as the leader of this great nation, he has done the only thing that a freedom-loving chief executive could do...he set up a Stalinesque website where good citizen comrades could report the scheming plans of these illegitimate protestors. He asked that any e-mails or conversations that sounded "fishy" (i.e., that disputed the official claims about the nature of the reform bills) be reported to the White House for investigation. Hilariously, that decision was abandoned when the website was swamped with people reporting on the "fishy" claims being made by Obama and the Democrats.
Obama is not alone though. former Clinton Administration official Lanny Davis demanded that all protestors be photographed and investigated (the only sensible thing to do when one sees First Amendment rights being exercised).
Of course, Democrats and Obama are intimately familiar with manufactured outrage, Astroturf and paid protestors. Check out the following link to see Michelle Malkin again expose the naked hypocrisy of Democrat claims by cataloging the seemingly endless supply of Democrat operatives/plants in the audience at these town hall meetings hosted by Obama under the guise of being just average concerned citizens. This gives Obama the luxury of pretending to field unscripted questions why carefully avoiding having to answer questions that might get him in trouble.
And just what might we ask about that might get him in trouble? Here are a few possibilities:
Democrats and Obama have mistaken anger at Republicans and Bush for abandoning conservative principles in previous elections with a mandate to move the country quickly and drastically to the left. They are now learning that their mandate was not a mandate at all. Again, though, we must not assume that the fight is over because once this recess is over the rhetoric and terminology may change, but the same goals will still be pursued. Please continue to make your voice heard.

The Economy, Taxes and Deficits
One of the reasons why support for health care "reform" is being lost is that the truth about the cost of the bills are coming to light. When you add together Stimulus I and TARP I under Bush to Stimulus II and TARP Continued, UAW/auto bailouts, continued bailouts for Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, AIG, a $4 trillion budget, $1 trillion projected annual budget deficits, and all of the other spending occurring at the federal level...people are starting to realize that $10 billion here and $150 billion there and pretty soon you're talking about real money. Obama has repeatedly claimed that he will not support a reform bill that increases the deficit, and that in fact the deficit would be reduced under his plan. However, the facts are stubborn things, and his own economic advisors and Treasury Secretary have said that tax increases on the middle class not only can't be ruled out, they will be necessary. Here's what the actual economic "experts" had to say:
"...recovery will not be strong enough to sustain unless we can convince
the American people that we're going to have the will to bring these
deficits down once recovery is firmly established...I think what the country needs to do is understand we're going to have to do what it takes, we're going to do what's necessary." (Treasury Secretary Tim "TurboTax" Geithner, responding to a question on whether taxes would be raised on the middle class).
"...there is a lot that can happen over time. But the priority right now, so it is never a good idea to rule things -- rule things out no matter what." (Obama Economic Adviser Larry Summers, responding to CBS's Bob Schieffer when asked to reiterate Obama's promise not to raise taxes on the middle class).
Uh, oh! Sounds like mommy and daddy didn't get their stories straight before they came to tell the kiddies just how things were going to be.

The Sweet Taste of Power
Democrats and Obama have taken their majorities and used it to create stunning power grabs, and in the process have become so brazen that by necessity it will have to come back to bite them. Some examples:
Obama's "pay czar" Kenneth Feinberg stated in an interview that he has broad powers over compensation, including the ability to "claw back" money already paid out. He also states that "anything is possible under the law" when it comes to expanding on who he takes back pay from, and arrogantly asserts that "my decision is final..."
Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL) holds his town hall meeting in small room right after a Democrat party meeting so that protesters are left outside because there is no room left.

A Little Good News and Comic Relief
If you watch the news or follow politics too closely, it's easy to forget how much good is in the world. So take a few minutes to enjoy the good and laugh a little as well..
To start off with I'd like to thank Matt Schultz, a Bartow School Board member, for being the only board member (even though the entire board is comprised of Republicans) to vote against accepting federal "stimulus" money, and all of the strings attached, not the least of which is future budget obligations to be funded by county taxpayers. Contact information for board members can be found here, and public comments will be addressed at the next meetings on Sept. 14th and Sept. 21st @ 5:45PM.
A Butler, Missouri car dealer named Mark Mueller is giving away an AK-47 voucher with every new truck he sells, and this CNN reporter throws every liberal cliche at him in her interview. Doesn't faze him for an instant! If you're for gun rights, you'll enjoy this video.
Stunningly, in a country (according to Democrats) where people are literally dropping dead in the streets from an acute lack of health insurance, the CDC recently released their findings that life expectancy in the U.S. has gone up.
Funny, but not funny ha-ha...Cuba, the same Cuba that Michael Moore once touted as the pinnacle of health care achievement and social equality, has run into a little problem...they have almost run out of toilet paper. Yes, members of the Communist paradise have nothing clean to justify their ends. In response, the Castro Brothers have promised to fight the capitalist conspiracy that brought about the crisis, and in the mean time will begin rationing newspaper. Castro admits that the situation stinks, and vows to wipe these evildoers away. Cuba is also running out of red beans and chick peas, and fields are being plowed with eco-friendly oxen...because they are also almost out of gasoline.
In a very quiet reversal, the Obama State Department seems to have backed away from threats to sanction Honduras after it removed President Manuel Zelaya from office for constitutional violations. There will be no apology from Obama (he saves those apologies for murderous dictators and America haters), but we'll take what we can get.

Sarah Palin and the Pope
The Pope is visiting Washington, D.C., and Sarah Palin takes him out for an afternoon on the Potomac. They're admiring the sights when suddenly the Pope's hat blows off his head and right into the river. The Secret Service starts to launch a boat to retrieve the hat, but Sarah stops them saying 'Don't bother...I'll get it for His Holiness".
Sarah Palin steps into the river but amazingly, stays above the surface of the water, walks out to retrieve the hat, bends over and picks it up, then walks back, never even getting her shoes wet. She hands the hat to the Pope amid stunned silence. The next morning, the Washington Post, NY TImes, ABC News, CBS News, NBC News, and CNN carry a lead story, complete with photos of the event. The banner headline reads: 'Palin Can't Swim!'

Q: What do you get when you cross a pilgrim with a democrat?
A: God-fearing tax collector who gives thanks for what other people have.
For all of the Republican fearmongering about how Obama is going to raise taxes on the middle class, the truth is that he has already spectacularly fulfilled this campaign promise to reduce the amount of taxes paid...it's call unemployment.

Reading for Extra Credit
Keeping Up With the World of Politics, Government, and the Social Issues of the Day
Congratulations to Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA) for receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom, America's highest civilian honor. President Obama personally presented the award, thanking Kennedy for his life's work in educating the public of the drowning dangers associated with car rides with U.S. Senators. Ms. Mary Jo Kopechne was unavailable for comment.
In news that I am sure came as a shock to our brave troops being attacked in Iraq and Afghanistan, Obama has declared that the "War on Terror" is over, we are not fighting "jihadists" and we are not in a "global war". This same strategy worked brilliantly in Atlanta when the city, tired of the high crime and the prostitution on Stewart Avenue, changed the street name to Metropolitan Avenue. Ta da! No more crime on Stewart Avenue.
