Keeping Up With The World of Politics, Government and Social Issues of the Day
I'm normally a fan of Wal-Mart as being one of the best examples of free-market capitalism, but occasionally they irritate me, such as when they pressure local governments to use unfair exercise of imminent domain. Now I add to the list cynical sucking up...they have done a 180-degree turn on health care reform and now support the Democrats because they know it will make it near impossible for smaller competitors to keep up.
As a result of the NEA (National Educators Association, the nation's largest teachers' union) a very successful washington, D.C. area charter school program is losing its funding. Now those students, along with students of military families and others lose any chance they had that their children will receive anywhere close to the same quality of education as the children of President Obama and Education Secretary Arne Duncan (who can afford to send their kids to private schools or public schools in affluent areas). The Wall Street Journal exposes the egregious hypocrisy.
I guess this is what Al Gore means when he says the science is settled: One of the world's top polar bear researchers has been banned from the upcoming meeting of the Polar Bear Specialist Group because he said that his research shows that, far from declining due to global warming, polar bear populations are now higher than they were 30 years ago. He was told that his views are "extremely unhelpful" and contrary to the political views of the group.
