Independence Day was great and we had well over 70 people participate (please see article below) with the Bartow County Republican Party in the parade and/or the Dellinger Park activities. Marching in the parade with the "History of America and Freedom" theme was very special. We had people dressed in the Revolutionary time period with soldiers from that period leading the rest of the soldiers dressed from just about every era from 1776 to 2009. Parts of the parade route even gave a standing ovation after the last of us went by and I have heard nothing but great comments from that day. At the park, we were able to give away almost 300 copies of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Overall, it was a great day, and being able to talk to so many people that day gives me true hope that no matter what the Obama administration does to our country in the next few years, we the people of the United States of America will stand up and bring our country back to what our forefathers intended.
Currently, President Obama is trying to do anything and everything he can to turn our country into a socialist nation, and has yet to have a setback in any of the policies he has tried to ram down our throats. The next couple of weeks could be very crucial, and if you have not contacted Congressman Gingrey, Senator Isakson and Senator Chambliss yet to let them know your opinion of all these new policies (i.e. Cap and Trade, Health Care, Sonia Sotomayor, etc.) you need to today. I am fairly confident that these three gentlemen will vote no to all of these, but they still need to hear from you. The best way to let a politician know how you feel about an issue is to call or write them personally. Petitions are nice, but are not nearly as effective. So if you do not like the direction this country is going, contact your representatives today and often. The only way we can stop some of this now is to let them know how we feel.
This past Friday, Georgia was sent a huge blow by the Federal courts in that by 2012 Lake Lanier will no longer be allowed to be used for drinking water unless Congress changes the law by 2012. Florida's Governor Charlie Crist is pleased with the decision so the mussels in Florida will continue to receive all the water they need, but the people of Atlanta will be without drinking water. Now with the current Congress, I doubt that they will side with the Red state of Georgia versus the Purple state of Florida. Therefore, we will need our state legislature and governor to step up and somehow protect us from the federal government and make sure that the water that originates in the Georgia mountains is allowed to be used by Georgia citizens to drink.
A couple of last thoughts coming from the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) conference, first the other day Zell Miller Zell Miller once again proved that he is my favorite Democrat. If you missed it please follow this link. Second I would like to say congratulations to Rep. Tom Graves for being named " Legislator of the Year." |

Greetings!
Over the last week or so we have been able to watch the proceedings of the Senate Judiciary committee pertaining to the confirmation of President Obama's first (and last, I pray) pick for the Supreme Court. While conservatives have, and all Americans should have, deep concerns about the qualifications of Sonia Sotomayor, it appears that she will indeed be confirmed to the high court. The only feasible way to keep this from happening is if the Republicans on the committee all vote against passing her nomination on to the full Senate for a vote (Senate Judiciary Committee Rule IV states "...debate shall be terminated if the motion to bring the matter to a vote without further debate passes with ten votes in the affirmative, one of which must be cast by the minority"). However, with Republicans Orrin Hatch and Lindsey "Gramnesty" Graham on the committee, the chances of that happening are about as likely as Obama embracing free-market capitalism or Nancy Pelosi smiling and having her eyebrows move...which is to say, virtually nonexistent. These are the consequences of the last few election cycles in which Republicans have gotten decimated at the polls.
While it seems inevitable that Sotomayor will be confirmed, there is good reason to be concerned about what type of jurist she will be. Obama stated when he revealed his nomination that he wanted someone with "empathy" on the court, but that is in direct opposition to the principles outlined by the Constitution for the judiciary. The judiciary is supposed to rule on cases based on the facts of the case in relation to the law as written. They are supposed to leave personal biases and prejudices behind when they make their rulings. Yet Sotomayor seems to not only admit that she allows her biases to affect her decisions, but she thinks that it is a good thing! We have all seen by now her speaking to Duke law students at a forum in which she laughed about how the appeals courts "make policy", or her "wise Latina" comment, which she still stands by. But there are other serious concerns, such as her ruling in the Ricci v. Destefano case that was just overturned by the Supreme Court, in which she attempts to codify the validity of bias in rulings as long as it goes the right way (in other words, if the winners are politically correct protected classes). This is the case where white and Hispanic firefighters were denied promotions because not enough blacks did well on the test. The Supreme Court overturned her ruling in a 5-4 decision, but all nine justices said that she mishandled the case. In another example of Obama's mastery of Orwellian doublespeak, the White House said that this just proves that she is not a judicial activist.
Other concerns include her failure to disclose a document in which she argued that the death penalty is racist, or her ruling that the states do not have to obey the Supreme Court's recent gun rights ruling, or her overthrowing existing New York State law when she ruled that convicted felons have a right to vote. In fact, of the eight cases in which she ruled that have come before the Supreme Court, six have been overturned and only two upheld. Of the two that were upheld, one of the cases she was criticized by the high court for having faulty reasoning for reaching her decision. Clearly, there are serious reasons to worry about this nominee.
Shortly after Obama nominated Sotomayor, Republicans began to express concern over her past statements, her injection of race and gender into her judicial rulings, her departure from the Constitution in the foundation of her reasonings, her combative temperament, as well as her general qualifications to serve on the high court. The truth is that, despite Obama's claim that she was the most qualified candidate to be promoted to the Supreme Court in all of the federal judiciary, it soon became obvious that not only was she a judicial activist, she was an intellectual lightweight. This was pointed out even by some prominent liberals, including Jeffrey Rosen, who is no bastion of conservative thought, who said that she was "not that smart". By her own admission, Sotomayor was an "affirmative action baby" who was admitted to Princeton and Yale, despite having test scores well below those of her classmates, simply because she was a Hispanic woman. So ill-prepared was she that it was recommended that she read children's classics, such as Winnie the Pooh, The Cat in the Hat, and Charlotte's Web, during her summers, just to catch up. Liberal leanings aside, this was the best we have to offer for serving on the Supreme Court? Really? Obviously not, because after praising her for her incredible accomplishments and claiming she is "the whole package", Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid then had to admit that he "hasn't read a single one" of her opinions, and astonishingly, continued by saying "...and if I am fortunate before we end this [nomination process] I won't have to read one of them." So much for advise and consent.
As soon as criticism of Sotomayor began, Republicans and conservatives were warned by the White House to tread lightly because criticism would be construed as racism, and that they would damage any hope of winning Hispanic voters by being critical of the first Hispanic nominee to the high court. This is when I could barely contain my disgust at the lying, hypocritical Democrats. Their brazenness astounds me, although you would think by now I would know that there is no level to which they would not stoop to get what they want. These are the same people that accused our military of being terrorists and claimed that they were killing women and children. So blatant lies and character assassination is a walk in the park for them.
This is what I mean: First of all, Sotomayor will not be the first Hispanic to serve on the Supreme Court, even if she is confirmed. That honor belongs to Justice Benjamin Cardozo, a Sephardic Jew of Spanish descent who served on the court from 1932 until his death in 1938. He was appointed by Republican president Herbert Hoover. Second, despite their self-congratulatory claim to be the party of minorities, Democrats have proven that skin color is important to them as they divide the world into various factions of oppressed victims, but not as important as ideology. Sotomayor was the first Hispanic to serve on the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, but that was only because Democrats blocked Bush's appointment of Miguel Estrada, and infinitely more qualified jurist. Senator Patrick Leahy just flat-out lied when he said that Republicans were to blame because Estrada was not given a hearing when they were in charge. But Estrada was nominated on 5/9/01 and the Republicans were in charge for exactly two weeks before Jim Jeffords (Vermont) switched parties and gave Democrats control of the Senate. Democrats then refused to hold hearings for him by using, as the NY Times described it, an "extraordinary filibuster" to keep him from being promoted.
The problem was that Estrada was politically dangerous for Democrats, a Hispanic with a compelling background who had succeeded on his own merits and, worst of all, was a conservative. This was revealed when secret Senate Judiciary Committee memos between staff members for Democrats Dick Durbin and Ted Kennedy were leaked, in which it was revealed that Democrats were devising tactics to block his confirmation specifically because he was a Hispanic. They simply could not allow Bush to be the first to appoint a Hispanic. Democrats successfully ranted, raved, wrung their hands and cried "foul!", turning the issue from Democrats blocking a minority appointee because of his political leanings into supposed Republican ethics violations (Democrats claimed Republican staffers hacked into the computers and stole the memos but the memos were actually left on a computer that staffers from both sides had access to). In the face of a Democratic filibuster, Estrada never received a hearing and withdrew his name from consideration 26 months later.
This is just one of many times that Democrats have attacked minorities that didn't stay on the Democrat plantation, proving again that skin color is not as important as ideology. They visciously attacked Clarence Thomas, accusing him at the last minute of sexual harrassment (Anita Hill) and asking detailed questions of his sexual preferences and whether he watched pornographic videos. Or Janice Rogers Brown, another judge blocked by Democrats until the atrocious Gang of 14 compromise let her through to serve on the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals (atrocious because without that compromise the Republicans were ready to change the Senate rules so that all judges got an up-or-down vote with a simple majority). She was a nightmare for Democrats...a black woman from Alabama raised as the daughter of sharecroppers, who moved to California and started college, was left as a single mother when her husband died, worked her way through law school and eventually served on the California Supreme Court. It just got worse though...she also was pro-life, anti-affirmative action, anti-government intrusion and called liberals policies modern day slavery. Clearly, despite her skin color, she was not an authentic black woman. That must be why her confirmation was opposed by the NAACP and the National Organization for Women.
Let us also not forget the attacks on Colin Powell (the first black Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under Reagan, the first national security advisor under George H.W. Bush and the first black Secretary of State under George W. Bush) who Democrats attacked as an Uncle Tom (at least until he endorsed Obama just prior to the 2008 elections). Where were the Democrat leaders and the other defenders of minorities and women when Condaleeza Rice (former Provost for Stanford University and the first black female National Security Advisor under George W. Bush, promoted to Secretary of State during his second term) was shown in a cartoon by Washington Post cartoonist Ted Rall calling herself Bush's "house nigga"? Where was the moral outrage then?
I could go on for a while but I am just getting myself worked up with no way to constructively vent steam. But you get the picture. I am sick of the Democrats hypocritical and self-righteous claims of moral superiority as lovers of liberty, defenders of the minorities and the oppressed. They take no thought to destroying the good name of good men and women for the offense of having opposing political beliefs. Republicans, on the other hand, make only token protests about egregious behavior for fear of hurting someone's feelings. Clarence Thomas was barely confirmed by the Senate, Robert Bork's reputation was trashed in his hearings and yet far left justice and former ACLU lawyer Ruth Bader Ginsberg was confirmed 96-3 and liberal justice Stephen Breyer was confirmed 87-9 in what Ginsburg described as hearings that were unusual in how civil they were. Under Democrat questioning, on the other hand, Samuel Alito's wife was forced the leave the hearing room in tears as her husband was accused of the most vile actions and beliefs.
I guess what I am saying is that Republicans have got to make a stand. They need to be more vocal about the ridiculous double standard between what is acceptable for Republicans and what is acceptable for Democrats. If our nominees can be blocked because of political ideology, so can theirs. If they can use half-truths, innuendos and outright lies, then so can we. But that is the problem. It goes against the nature of conservatives to engage is such disgusting behavior, so we are left to engage in a fight with a built-in handicap. That is what we need to show the voters. If we don't then we will continue to get run roughshod over. |

The Economy (Stimulus, Health Care Reform and Cap-and-Tax)
Our country is in a very precarious situation right now, and the next few months will reveal if we will eventually recover from the current disastrous policies being carried out, or whether we will completely succumb to the siren song of socialism and become the European Union-Western division. There are several bills being worked on right now, any one of which would cripple the economy and combined would turn us into a third-world nation. As informed citizens we must voice loudly our opposition to all policies which curtail the dynamic free market, increase government control over the lives of individuals and limit freedom of choice (Democrats are all about being pro-choice right?...or does that only apply to killing the unborn and not pocketbook decisions).
Earlier this year Obama campaigned for, and Pelosi and Reid pushed through, a $787 billion "stimulus package" that was supposed to kick-start the economy and reverse rising unemployment. Obama promised in January that with the bill passed, unemployment would be under 8% by the end of June, and without it unemployment would rise as high as 8.3%! He promised 3.5 million jobs would be created or saved in two years. Well, the bill was passed and unemployment is over 9.4% (with Obama now conceding that it will rise to over 10% before the end of the year), the U.S. has lost 3.4 million jobs in the last six months (with the increase in minimum wage kicking in soon expected to make that figure worse), and Obama's own internal reports show that unemployment is worse after the stimulus package than it would have been without one.
What does the White House have to say about this? They say higher unemployment proves the stimulus is working, because even though they promised that the stimulus would immediately lower unemployment, which it hasn't, without the stimulus it would be even higher (I guess they didn't see that other report). Biden also said that "everyone guessed wrong" on the impact of the economic stimulus (except Limbaugh, Hannity, George Will, Thomas Sowell, all of the Republicans in Congress, dozens of conservative commentators, and even Nancy Pelosi's tarot card reader).
Now we are supposed to ignore all that has gone wrong and trust them when they say that they can save the world from global warming for 25 cents a day (word is that Sally Struthers consulted on the study) with no negative impact on the economy, and on top of that they will lower the cost of health care while simultaneously dramatically increasing demand and improving quality. The bottom line? I wouldn't trust these idiots to run a lemonade stand, much less the most powerful economy in the entire world. None of them has ever run anything that required them to satisfy customers and turn a profit. Obama was a "community organizer", Pelosi ran the PTA, Kennedy has been in politics his whole life...okay, okay, there is Barney Frank. He does get credit for running a successful male prostitution ring from his basement. Good job Barney!

A Little Good News and Comic Relief
If you watch the news or follow politics too closely, it's easy to forget how much good is in the world. There has been plenty to be happy about though, and with the constant bombardment of depressing news stories, we need to take some time to focus on the good, and laugh a little as well...
In a CBS-NYT poll taken in June, support for same-sex marriage dropped 9 points in just two months.
Republican Rep. Randy Forbes would like Pres. Obama to answer a question...when exactly, did we cease to be a Christian nation (as Obama claimed while visiting Turkey)?
Are Democrats planning to reinstate slavery so they can ban it? Mike Adams exposes liberal plans.
Nationalized health care has worked so well in Britain and Canada that California, always on the cutting edge, is planning to try that in other areas, namely in nationalizing grocery stores.
California, struggling with a $26 billion deficit, will be sold to Mexico to cover the debt and leased back to the U.S. Governor Schwarzenegger will be removed from his post and replaced by Vin Diesel.
Warning to Democrats and Obamabots...the last three articles are what the literate call satire. No reason for actual alarm...
Great work if you can get it...the University of Idaho pays $112k for a 9-month contract for a "Chief Inspiration Officer". Future applicants must have a Masters in huggology and be certified in Hopenchange.

Reading for Extra Credit
Keeping Up With the World of Politics, Government, and the Social Issues of the Day
Is the world coming to an end!? It must be because uber-liberal journalist Helen Thomas and CBS's Chip Reid nail White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs over Obama's tight control over questions at press conferences and rigged "town hall" meetings.
The world is ending - Part II...Gaffe-a-minute VP Joe Biden has been put in charge of overseeing political reconciliation in Iraq (yes, the same Biden who angered Iraqis a few years ago by calling for Iraq to be partitioned). Heaven help us!
How bad is America's credit rating (and credibility)? Treasury Secretary and tax cheat "Turbo Tax Tim" Geithner was literally laughed off the stage by Chinese university students when he told them that China's dollar assets were safe.
Which is it? Obama pressured Israel earlier this year to give additional concessions to their enemies that have vowed their destruction, then sat idly as Iranians were killed in the street for protesting a rigged election because it was not our place to "meddle", but them immediately decries Honduras' constitutional removal of their president when he tries to change the law to allow for him to be re-elected for life.
How well did it work out the last time Obama put Biden in charge of something? Remember, he was in charge of overseeing spending of the "stimulus" money. In May, Biden claimed that the stimulus had already "created or saved" 150,000 jobs, but that claim was not backed up by his own report.
Biden did correctly predict that Obama would be challenged by hostile countries in the first six months of his presidency. Looks like he was right. In addition to the turmoil in Iran, North Korea is getting more belligerent. After conducting several nuclear tests and missile launches in violation of international treaties and sanctions (and warning of a 1000-fold retaliation on the U.S. and its allies if they responded), North Korea launched missiles into the Sea of Japan, timed to be a slap in the face for America as they were launched on July 4th. It's okay, though, because the North Koreans are learning their lesson. The U.N. Security Council responded swiftly and mercilessly with a non-binding resolution expressing concern, and President Obama has promised that if that does not work he has no reservations about escalating the pressure on NK by hand-wringing, blaming the U.S., followed by dirty looks and ultimately, a time-out for Kim Jong-Il.
File under "Duh!"...Fed Chairman Bernanke warns that deficits are threatening America's financial stability.
