A Little Good News and Comic Relief

If you watch the news or follow politics too closely, it's easy to forget how much good is in the world. There has been plenty to be happy about though, and with the constant bombardment of depressing news stories, we need to take some time to focus on the good, and laugh a little as well...

It is now official...Evan Thomas, editor of Newsweek, finally admits what we all suspected...that the media and the left believe Obama is God.

Give the TODAY show a little credit though; they risked the wrath of the Obamessiah by making fun of his crutch-like reliance on the teleprompter.

This diatribe on Elizabeth Edwards' new book and media hypocrisy in portraying those on the left and the right is so funny because it is so true.

How about a little humor? Andrew Klavan answers that favorite question of liberals everywhere...why are conservatives so mean?

In a little bit of palace intrigue, two Democrats turn on their leadership to give the GOP control of the NY state Senate.

The APA (the same on that gives us the list if 547 sexual deviancies) has now revised the "gay gene" theory, and admits that there is no evidence that there is a biological gene that causes homosexuality.

Good ol' Joe...our gaffe-prone VP slipped up and started blabbing about the secret VP bunker. Not only was this information classified, but he revealed the very place he would hide in case of an attack! Gotta love it...

"Mother is the name for God in the lips and hearts of little children."  ~William Makepeace Thackeray

"A truly rich man is one whose children run into his arms when his hands are empty." -- Unknown

"Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." John Adams, 2nd President of the United States

Last month we celebrated Mother's Day, and later this month we will celebrate Father's Day. We celebrate these holidays because as a country and as a people we have long known what so many generations before us have known...that God provided a divine structure under which children are best raised and cared for, through which they are protected, loved, nurtured and educated. Despite what the fashionable social theories of the day dictate, we know that men and women are born with unique physical and emotional traits, and our children benefit most when they have both to learn from. It is a tragic reality of our day that too often, through death, divorce, neglect, abandonment or other circumstances, children are deprived of the opportunity to have both a loving mother and father in their lives. It is tragic enough when these circumstances occur on their own, but it is doubly tragic government encourages these circumstances through misguided policies that marginalize and attempt to replace the parents.

A battle between the forces of liberalism and conservatism as regarding the traditional family has been raging for several decades, but we are seeing the left move now with a swiftness that is alarming. For those of us that were raised to believe in the wisdom of traditional Judeo-Christian moral values, we see this not as an issue of what is politically correct or politically expedient, but what is right and wrong. We understand intuitively that the traditional family has been successful for thousands of years as the foundational unit of a strong civilization, and we understand that the increase in divorce, teen pregnancy, abortion, child abuse or neglect, and the vast majority of the social ills of the day are the logical conclusions stemming from having abandoned these core values, a "me-first" attitude that shuns sacrifice, and the embracing of politically correct "alternative" lifestyles. We are not surprised by the continued erosion of moral values and the subsequent problems that we see, which is why we work so hard to fight against a world permissive of these things as we try to instill these values in our children.

Now, none other than the President and the Democrat majority in the Congress are launching the next wave of the assault on the traditional family. That assault is coming from multiple fronts, and they must all be repelled. However, it will not be easy, because those on the other side of the social divide are salivating at the prospect of finally getting what they have so long worked for. The evidence is all around us. One of the major prongs in this assault by the left comes in the form of the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009 (H.R. 1913 and S.909), which adds "sexual orientation" to the list of government protected classes. Under the guise of preventing hate crimes, it actually punishes Christians and others that believe in moral absolutes. It creates a protected class in direct violation of Section 1 of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution, for all people with the "disability" of sexual deviancy as defined by the American Psychiatric Association (and covered under the definition of sexual orientation). Speaking to his colleagues on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives, Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-FL) stated:

"This bill addresses our resolve to end violence based on prejudice and to guarantee that all Americans regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability or all of these "Philias" and fetishes and "isms" that were put forward need not live in fear because of who they are. I urge my colleagues to vote in favor of this rule."

Democrats are knowingly protecting sexual deviants who engage in exhibitionism, homosexuality, transgenderism, cross-dressing, bestiality, voyeurism...every one of the 547 sexual deviancies defined by the APA, including pedophilia! This means that if you are at a park and your child wanders off and you go to find her, and you find her being molested by a pedophile, if you hit that pervert then you can be prosecuted for a felony because under the law you have committed an assault against a member of a protected class.

Now you may say, "Surely this can't happen, and the Democrats just didn't realize that this was a possibility". Not so fast. To make sure a travesty like this scenario did not occur, Rep. Steve King (R-IA) offered an amendment that was simple and unambiguous: "The term sexual orientation as used in this act or any amendments to this act does not include pedophilia." This amendment was rejected (as were a number of others along the same lines), and Chairman Conyers immediately called for an end to debate and rushed an immediate vote.

At the same time that these deviants are being protected, Christians and others that share our moral belief system will be targeted by the law. While proponents of the bill dismiss these claims as just so much inflammatory rhetoric, they refuse to protect under cover of law those with religious views in opposition to these practices. This means that if you are propositioned by a homosexual and make a disparaging remark (even just expressing disgust) concerning the offender's sexual orientation, you have violated the rights of a member of a protected class. Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee (D-TX) stated during a Judiciary Committee hearing on April 23rd that "We also need to protect those potential victims who may be the recipients of hateful words or hateful acts, or even violent acts". It seems sticks and stones may break my bones but words will get me 10 years in the federal penitentiary. Under this bill, simply expressing your religiously held views in opposition to homosexuality and other forms of sexual deviancy constitutes a hate crime. The sad thing is that FBI statistics show that less than 1% of all violent crimes can be categorized as "hate crimes", and in a rare candid admission, prominent gay-rights activist Andrew Sullivan admitted that claims of rampant violence against homosexuals are nothing more than fund raising ploys.

Clearly, Democrats are pushing hard to please their constituents among the pro-homosexual/deviancy crowd. Here are some other examples:

President Obama became the first president to refuse to publicly observe the National Day of Prayer(he probably thought it would be awkward to offer a prayer to himself), but he enthusiastically proclaimed June to be LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered) Pride Month, including an official presidential proclamation. Nice...

The New Hampshire legislature passed, and Governor Lynch signed, a bill legalizing gay marriage. This was initially voted down...but only because the governor insisted on religious protections! However, a new legal battle is looming because the pro-gay lobby will now move to have the religious protections eliminated now that the government has recognized homosexuality as protected.

President Obama is attempting to remove the "conscience clause", which would criminalize a doctor, nurse, pharmacist or other health care provider if they refuse to perform an abortion or provide the "morning after" abortion pill based on religious or moral reasons.

The San Fransisco Unified School District has launched a website that promotes homosexuality and "tolerance" of that lifestyle, and targets children as young as kindergartners. One school even gives extra credit in order so that "kids who wouldn't be exposed to this kind of programming [and that is the right term to use] will be taught to think about it." It gets worse though. Because of the ruling by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in the 2005 case Fields vs. Palmdale School District that parents' fundamental right to control the upbringing of their children "does not extend beyond the threshold of the school door," and that a public school has the right to provide its students with "whatever information it wishes to provide, sexual or otherwise". The Alameda Unified School District is also considering a supplemental curriculum designed to eradicate homophobia in kindergartners. What kindergartner even has a concept of homosexuality at that age? They're still eating glue and picking boogers, for heaven's sake!

The ACLU is suing to have a 7-foot cross removed, erected in the Mojave Desert in 1934 as a memorial for fallen soldiers, claiming it violates the separation of church and state (side note: the "separation of church and state exists nowhere in the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution...go ahead, try and find it. Bonus question, where did the phrase first appear?).

Okay, okay, this sounds really bad and it is. But don't get discouraged, because we are fighting back and getting wins of our own. Most notably of late was the California Supreme Court voting to uphold Proposition 8, the voter referendum amending the constitution of that state to define marriage as being between one man and one woman. Another was the reversal of an attempt by San Diego officials to require a permit to hold a Bible study in a private home. And for the first time since 1995, a Gallup poll shows that the majority of Americans identify themselves as "pro-life"

Discouragement should not cross our lips because we know that we are on the side of all that is good, that which our Founding Fathers cherished and fought and died for, relying on divine providence as their protector and their guide. We know that as has happened so many times in the past, these philosophies and policies will fail, not because we want them to, but because human nature and the experience of generations say they must. Which is why we must have hope and sound the clarion call to our friends and neighbors to return to those values that made us great.

Come find out about these issues and more at our monthly meeting on Saturday, June 27th, 2009 at 9:00 AM. Bring a friend and get involved. Our guest speaker will be Karen Handel, Secretary of State and 2010 Gubernatorial race candidate.
Father's Day

On Sunday June 21st, we will celebrate Father's Day, which is just like Mother's Day except you don't get in nearly as much trouble if you forget to get a gift. I hope each of us take an opportunity to tell our fathers and husbands (you women, anyway...this is still Georgia, not San Francisco, after all) how much we appreciate their hard work and sacrifices for their families. It doesn't take a village, like Hillary claims, but a loving mother and father, to raise a child. A leader in my church once said that "No other success can compensate for failure in the home". I truly believe that. No work we do in this world will ever be as important as that which is done within the walls of our home. If we are to return this nation to the moral foundations that made us great, it will be by mothers and fathers teaching correct principles to their children; not by schools, not by the media, and certainly not by government. As a father of seven, soon to be eight children, I find my greatest joy in watching my children grow into good, decent, responsible young men and women that know right from wrong, and choose to do good of their own free will. I commend all of you fathers (and mothers) that work so hard to make your families a shining example to those around you. May God bless your efforts continually.
Chairman's Note by Michael Huneke michael@bartowgop.com
Saxby ChamblissIsaksonIn the past couple of weeks, much has happened to threaten many of our freedoms.  We haven't lost them yet, and they can be defeated if we the people stand up now and let our elected officials know our opinions.  These are not liberties that are Republican or Democrat, but rather good old fashioned American Freedoms.

On the national scene, we are seeing big government become even bigger and take more of our freedoms away.  Louis Debroux, Vice Chairman for Communications, has done a great job keeping us all informed through the newsletters that have been going out lately.  As Republicans, we would like to say that it is all the Democrats who are taking away our freedoms led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and President Barak Obama.  We cannot necessarily say that our Republicans haven't tried to inch us toward some forms of socialism in the past, but the Democrats are just going down the road towards socialism with lightning speed. My wife and I write to our elected officials or call them quite regularly, and recent responses from our two Senators, Johnny Isakson and Saxby Chambliss, have disturbed us more than the usual.  Yes, they are trying to slow down the current legislation, but they fail to see they too are going towards socialism, slower and in smaller bites, but still the same direction.  We the people need to let them know what we think and if they don't start acting like they believe in true conservative principles, we need to send them home and send a new representative to represent us in the Senate.  Below are a few points that our Republican Senators and some of our other elected officials should keep in mind.

1.  The media will never like you, no matter what you do.  The people need to hear your ideas directly.

2.  We didn't lose control of Congress because we don't have a big enough tent or because we don't compromise enough with the liberal Democrats.  We lost control of Congress because Republicans lost sight of their principles and didn't look much different from the Democrats.  Both Senators Chambliss and Isakson have promised in letters to constituents to "continue to work in a bipartisan manner" to solve problems.  All this usually means is we give in to liberal demands and get very little in return.  Never does that mean liberals give in to conservative ideas.  Proper principles for conservatives include the following:  Lower taxes, less government, personal responsibility, the proper role of government (following the Constitution) and individual liberty.  These are not only conservative values, they are core American values.

3.  When the government has its hands in a program, there is no possible way for that program to be "market-based" or "free market."  Senator Isakson said in a recent letter on universal health care, "The Senate Finance Committee and my colleagues on the HELP committee have recently conducted hearings to help find a solution to the financial burden of health care and ways to provide affordable health care to individuals without access to health insurance through an employer.  Key to this is stimulating competition in a market-based system that will encourage private health insurers to compete for business and make health insurance more affordable for consumers. I am also looking into policies that will increase coverage of preventative care, which will help control the cost of managing chronic disease and drive down the cost of treating largely preventable conditions."  What Senator Isakson fails to understand is that the root cause of the problem is government intervention!  Democrats and even many Republicans in Congress are insisting that government be part of the solution, and this is the wrong approach.  If we are to be a free society, we need to have the freedom to pay for our own health care or go without, with no government safety net that drives up costs.  Only in a true free market system will individuals begin to take true responsibility for their own health.  The government can't force you to take care of your body.  If you decide not to, or to go without insurance, you alone bear the responsibility for your health costs.  Personal responsibility comes when the government stops trying to make sure no one ever suffers for anything.  Trying to make everything equal means that everyone is equally miserable.  If the government is not footing any of the bill for our health care, costs will have to come down.  People will be more careful about going to the doctor and try harder to take care of themselves when they are responsible for the entire bill.  Doctors will only be able to charge what the market will bear if they want to make a living.

4.  It is not the government of the United States that makes this a great country, it is the people who work and pay taxes and start businesses.  Speaking in a letter to a constituent on President Obama's "GIVE" act (Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act), Senator Chambliss said the bill passed with his support, and also said, "This legislation establishes new service related programs aimed at creating volunteer opportunities for Americans."  Senator Isakson echoed these same sentiments in his constituent letter on the same issue, stating, "Although I had concerns regarding the new spending the bill authorized, I believe it is critically important to provide opportunities for our citizens to help one another and extend a hand to those in need, especially at a time when our economy is struggling," also adding that the legislation "would benefit service programs such as AmeriCorps, Teach for America, and the Peace Corps, which was led by the late Georgia Republican Senator Paul Coverdell," as if the fact that a Republican started the program automatically makes it okay.  What both Senators are missing is this:  it isn't the government's place to provide opportunities for Americans to help each other.  Americans are among the most generous people in the world, and are willing to help others in need.  One just needs to think back to the early days after September 11th to know how generous the majority of Americans are when someone is in need.  I believe that if all of these government programs ceased to exist, the American people and local churches would show what makes our country great and help those in need, and do it in a far more efficient and caring way than a government program ever could.

5.  The money "the government" spends does not belong to you.  It belongs to the people, and as much of it as possible should stay in the hands of the people who earn it.  As most of us know, if we continued to run up debt to live however we pleased, we would wind up bankrupt and destitute eventually, or would have to turn to stealing to make ends meet.  The current spending of the government is like our household buying up as many diamonds and jewels as we could borrow money to buy, then going to our neighbor's house, putting a gun to his head, and making him give us his money so we could go waste it also.  It wouldn't be any better if I had no more money to give and robbed my neighbor to give it to another neighbor who needed it.  If that is illegal for me, why is it legal for the government?

6.  Americans are looking for bold leaders to stand up against the continuing ruin of our country.  We as grassroots Republicans are truly looking for bold leaders who are not afraid to stand up for what is right, even against seemingly insurmountable odds.  You may lose a battle or two, but doing what is right is always right.  We are looking for leaders who are more interested in doing what is right than winning their next election.  We have a few of those leaders in and around Bartow County, but need more men and women of strong, unwavering principles to stand up for us and always do the right thing.  There is no room for compromise with evil ideas.

Take the fight to the Liberal Democrats.  Take good conservative ideas straight to your constituents.  We are in danger of losing our Republic if you don't.

If you agree with any of this, please let your elected officials know today, because if we don't tell them, they will continue to take away our freedoms until one day we have none.  If you disagree, don't do anything, because what you want then will continue to happen and we will all be answering to the government for everything we do.

Keeping Up With the World of Politics, Government, and the Social Issues of the Day

He should know...Pravda (Russian newspaper) columnist Stanislav Mishin warns America aboutthe current slide into total Marxism.

Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL) questions the inspector general about where the trillions of dollars issued by the Fed in the last year have gone. Answer? We don't know. The grilling is especially surprising coming from a liberal Democrat. Of course, this is the same guy that recently proclaimed that Congress needs to require private companies to pay for a minimum number of vacation days for employees each year.

Speaking of Florida, if Republicans are to regain power nationally it will be because we have stopped supporting RINO's and moderates like Arlen Specter and Lincoln Chafee and started getting behind candidates like Marco Rubio.

Even if President Obama has forgotten or conveniently ignored the fact that we are a country of Judeo-Christian origins, at least Rep. Randy Forbes has not.

With the country mired in recession and budgets tight for millions of families across the country, what are the Obama administration's priorities? How about giving millions to Planned Parenthood (the nation's largest abortion provider and protector of child molestors)...

Former VP Dick Cheney discusses the successful fight against terrorists under the Bush Administration, the policy changes under Obama, and the dangers of politicizing the defense of our country.

If global warming gets any worse we're going to freeze to death.
