Greetings!

As this year's legislative session has come to an end, we can see clearly that elections have consequences. Republicans lost seats in both the U.S. House and Senate, and lost the Presidency, and what have been the consequences? We have seen, in less than three months, a rush towards socialism as President Obama and the Congressional Democrat majorities have passed a $787 billion "stimulus" bill that has only stimulated the pockets of Democrats donors and special interests, a massive new budget that if enacted will lead to trillion dollar deficits for the next decade, a push for nationalized health care (the same type of system that we found out this weekend left a man in Britain to starve to death after having a stroke and having no one notice that he was without a feeding tube for 26 days), a cap-and-trade energy policy that by their own admission will cause energy prices to skyrocket, and all of this and more as our country struggles with a serious recession.

As depressing as that is, all is not lost. Georgia has remained at the forefront of the nation as a state that cherishes our nation's great heritage, our Constitution, our individual freedom, and most importantly, our belief in an almighty Creator from which all blessings originate. These traits have been reflected in those that we have elected to represent us.

In the legislative session just ended, we have seen the JOBS (Jobs, Opportunity & Business Success) Act of 2009, which leads the nation in getting us out of this recession using proven conservative principles. Among its provisions, it will enact a gradual elimination of the corporate income tax and give a tax credit for companies that hire an unemployed worker and keep them working for two years. This is expected to help Georgia lead the nation in job creation. Also seen this year was the result of last year's modification to the Red Light Camera laws (the addition of one second to the yellow light minimum timing) that has caused citations to drop by as much as 80%. About a dozen cities and climbing have now decided to remove their red light cameras because their revenue stream has dried up, proving that this was never about public safety. These are the types of good legislation that get passed when we get involved and get people elected that understand that the purpose of the law is to protect the citizens, not oppress them.

Come find out about these issues and more at our monthly meeting on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 9:00 AM. Bring a friend and get involved. Our guest speaker will be District 12 State Representative Tom Graves.
Atlanta TEA Party
The Atlanta TEA Party is this Wednesday, April 15th (Tax Day) starting at 7:00 PM and every concerned citizen is invited to come and participate.  This will hopefully be the biggest TEA Party in the nation at the Atlanta State Capitol.  Many speakers such as Former House Majority Leader Dick Armey, John Rich (of the country act "Big and Rich"), "Joe the Plumber" and Sean Hannity who will be broadcasting his show live on Fox News starting at 9 PM will be attending this great event.  There is a group from Bartow County going to the Atlanta TEA Party and they will be meeting at the K-Mart/Office Depot parking lot starting at 4:00 PM to make signs.  They will leave promptly at 5:05 PM and head to Atlanta.  If you would like more information, please visit AtlantaTeaParty.net or send an e-mail to huneke5@bellsouth.net.
District Convention
Main Elephant On April 18, 2009, the District Convention will be held at the Dallas Theater (204 Main Street, Dallas, GA) and the delegates will vote on new rules, resolutions, District Commitee members, State Committeemembers, and also will elect new officers for the District Executive Committee. Attending will be speakers that have announced their intention to run for statewide office next year, including gubernatorial candidates John Oxendine and Karen Handel. If you would like to serve on one of the committees please contact Michael Huneke (michael@bartowgop.com) for an interview.

Georgia Legislature

The legislative session is over and from it we are one of the few states in the nation who lowered taxes rather than raising them.  We shall soon see if lowering taxes or raising taxes was the correct decision.  Bartow County is represented by three representatives and two senators and they all spent many days this legislative session working on specific legislation.  To read what each of them sponsored and spent a tremendous amount of time on please follow the link next to their picture below.

May God Bless You,

Louis DeBroux, Vice Chair of Communications
