Greetings!
The Presidential election is over, and though it may be a little disappointing nationally, here in Bartow County we have much to celebrate as Republicans received at least 63% of the vote. The McCain/Palin ticket received 72% of the vote. Since the election, much has happened in the world of politics with much of the focus being on Illinois and more bail out proposals.
Today the Georgia General Assembly will convene for 2009. This could be one of the fastest 40 day Sessions we have ever had in Georgia, which could be a good thing. Even though the economy is not exactly going great, this could be a good year for the Georgia budget in that our General Assembly might be forced to slash unnecessary spending, or so we can hope.
Looking at the Federal side, I don't think we can be so lucky since the Democrats are in charge. Every day it seems that the Democrats come up with another billion or more dollars they must spend to help out the economy. If Republicans are unsuccessful in filibustering many of these spending projects, it looks like we will be going further in debt as a nation and creating more problems for the future.
Politics is definitely back in full swing and much will be happening in the next few months. Keep up to date by visiting our web site,
BartowGOP.com as are going to try and keep you informed of all the happenings as much as possible. Some changes to the site will be made in the next few weeks, and we hope to create a site for you to go to in order to stay informed.
Another way to keep up to date on political issues and to get involved is to join us every fourth Saturday at our monthly meetings. Saturday, January 24, will be our first meeting of 2009 and in our new meeting place, Slope's BBQ. Please join us Saturday, January 24 at 9:00 AM when our featured speaker will be Representative Barry Loudermilk.
