11th Congressional District Convention

If you plan to attend the 11th Congressional District Convention in Dallas, Georgia this Saturday, April 19, plan an extra 15 to 20 minutes for parking.  The Dallas city council decided earlier this week to close the main street and hold a city yard sale which just happens to be where the Dallas Theater is where the convention will be held.  Parking could be a problem with the convention traffic and yard sale traffic.  Doors will close at 10:00 AM sharp despite the potential parking problems.

Greetings!

The General Assembly has ended and we the people of Georgia will not be receiving a tax cut this year despite a Republican House, Republican Senate and a Republican Governor.  However, the budget went up and the reserves have over a billion dollars ($1,000,000,000  is a pretty big number).  Qualifying for office begins April 28th and all local county seats, two school board seats, state senators, state representatives, congressmen and Senator Chambliss will all be up this year along with the presidential race.  Convention time is underway with the District Convention to be held Saturday, April 19.  Saturday, April 26, will be our monthly meeting.  Please be sure to join us as our special guest speaker will be Bartow County Sheriff Clark Millsap.
General Assembly
In the last newsletter, the House and Senate were debating over which tax cut would be passed.  Neither side won, but the taxpayers of Georgia have definitely lost as there will be no tax cut this year.  Each side is blaming the other, but the sad thing is that both chambers are Republicans and there is a Republican Governor and there was no compromise.  Therefore, we will continue to pay more taxes and the already billion dollar reserve will continue to grow as we the citizens of Georgia continue to go through some tough economic times.  Sounds a lot like the US Congress in 2006 and before.  Just makes one wonder if the 2008 elections in Georgia will have the same results that the 2006 National elections had.  I guess we will find out soon enough.
