Greetings!

I would like to start this newsletter with prayer of thanksgiving that everyone in Bartow County survived the tornadoes from last Saturday.  Many homes were lost, and unfortunatly several lives were lost in neighboring counties.  My thoughts and prayers are with those families and their loss.  It will take many months for the families to rebuild their homes and I know many of you have been personally touched by the recent destruction.  I sincerly offer myself to anyone who may still need help with recovering from the mess that was left behind.

Last Saturday, before and during the tornadoes, the Bartow County Republican Party was in the middle of the county convention.  The convention itself will be one that I will never forget as we had to twice recess to the basement of the county court house with tornado sirens blaring.  Jayne Wilson took many pictures from the event that you may view at BartowGOP.com.  A big thank you to Congressman Phil Gingrey for coming to the convention and speaking with us.
General Assembly
Crossover day has past and now the General Assembly is closing in on the 40th and final day of the session.  Currently the argument between the House and Senate is what kind of a tax break will they give the people.  The House has passed HR 1246, which would basically allow the people to vote on whether to eliminate the ad valorem tax on your vehicle and freeze your property assessment at a growth of no more than 2% a year.  The Senate is now coming out with their own tax cut that would lower your personal income tax by 10% over 5 years.  It is nice that the General Assembly is finally arguing over giving back our own money, and to help them through this decision making, maybe they should compromise and just give us both tax cuts and cut spending too.  Then we will all be happy.  Keep your eye on this as I am sure it will just heat up in the next couple of weeks before day 40 of the legislative session.
