Greetings!

Happy New Year!  2008 is here and what a year it is going to be.  Last night the Iowa Caucuses officially began the Presidential Election.  This year we will elect all of our Bartow County elected officials along with our state representatives and senators.  U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss is also up along with our own Congressaman Phil Gingrey.  This will be an exciting year and to keep informed of all the events taking place, visit the BartowGOP.com and read the Bartow County Republican Party newsletters.

General Assembly
Glenn Richardson The Georgia General Assembly will be in session in just a couple of weeks.  The biggest piece of legislation that will receive the most attention is Speaker Glenn Richardson's "Great Plan."  This piece of legislation is an attempt to try and restructure the current state tax code.  There is a lot of controversy with this piece of legislation, and it will probably monopolize the headlines.  Read the latest draft for yourself at BartowGOP.com.

Presidential Election
Main Elephant The Presidential Election will definitely be the highlight of 2008.  Both Republicans and Democrats will be picking their candidates over the next few months and officially announce their candidates at the national conventions.  For Georgia, we will have our Presidential Preference Primary on Tuesday, February 5, 2008.  If you are not registered to vote yet, you must do so by Monday, January 7, 2008.  There are a wide variety of candidates with a tremendous variance in beliefs.  If you are unsure of who to vote for, you may visit the BartowGOP Candidates site and research each candidate's web site on your own.  This is a very important presidential election that will determine the course we take with the War on Terroism, Illegal Immigration, Health Care, Taxes, Gun Rights and many other issues.
Thank you for all your support and I hope to see you at our regular monthly meetings to be held every 4th Saturday of the month.  Our next meeting will be January 26th at Ryan's on Joe Frank Harris Pkwy in Cartersville.
Sincerely,

Michael W. Huneke II, Chairman
Bartow County Republican Party
