It's true. We are stronger in numbers when we communicate, share, and combine information and technologies for the betterment of our chosen industry. Because most of us reside in states where there isn't much regulation over our field, it becomes a personal decision, and motivation, to better ourselves through educational symposiums, conferences, classes, and shows. We subscribe to newsletters, blogs, and chat rooms; we send e-mails and texts, or just plain burn up the phone lines. I'm proud to be part of an industry that thirsts for knowledge and hungers for information in the quest for mastery in the field.

Convention Plans take shape as Economy Improves
The state of the economy has put a damper on extra-curricular activities and spending, and our XPO has joined that list of "extras". We posted a short economic survey in September 2008 to test the waters. We used it as a barometer to help determine whether members would be willing to take time away from their practices, spend money to fly or travel, book a hotel, pay for meals AND pay for attendance to our conference. While a few of you felt your budget would accommodate, there were more that felt it wouldn't. So we're looking forward to the soonest positive indications that our economy is stable and we'll keep you informed when and where our next Xpo will take place. Meantime, the Academy recognizes regional advanced training courses such as Bootcamps and Paramedical workshops and you can earn CME units when you attend them. In the MAY BLAST newsletter we will focus on CME Modules and Continuing education.

Economic Impact Survey Results: You are not alone!
 Since September of 2008, 150 professionals have taken the time to complete the survey on how the economy was affecting them. Take a look at the information below and you'll see that permanent makeup business has slowed for 85% of professionals. 80% of professionals have other sources of income. Everyone has observed that people are hanging onto their money for a "rainy day". However, 2009 has seen an upsurge in business for many of our members. Look at the chart below to see how many members carry insurance and how many years they have in our profession. Keep watch for our MAY e-news Blast. We will have a survey to let you tell us where and when you would like to have our next Xpo. Also, you will be able to tell us if you would like to make a presentation or take part in the competition. Lastly, you will be able to request who you would like to teach workshops or speak at Xpo.
