Note From Tamara

Greetings friends,

We have a lot of news for you this month.

Our annual Girls in STEM conference is just around the corner, Saturday, March 26th. Formerly known as Expanding Your Horizons, Girls in STEM is an all-day, fun, yet intensive program for 4th through 8th grade girls, led by women who work in STEM fields. If your daughter is not yet registered, there's still time! Last year, 500+ girls registered for this exceptional event, and we expect the same number of girls from across Central Texas to join us this year. We'll be livetweeting through our @girlstart Twitter feed (#girlsinstem) for adults who can't attend but do want to see what's going on at Girls in STEM!

Girlstart to Go: Changing the Game Summer Camps. We're so thrilled to share with you that AMD have made a dream possible: bringing our Girlstart Summer Camp to communities across America. This summer, we'll be able to bring Summer Camp to 5 AMD communities, collaborating with Boys and Girls Clubs in each one. While we're still putting together the details, we wanted to share that we are 'on the road' this summer at the same time we are delivering MORE camps in Austin (11!).  Our Austin Summer Camp registration is open at http://www.girlstartcamp.org.

Girlstart After School Blog: Our program leaders at schools across Central Texas are also assembling blog posts about some of their activities! Great photos and stories are here. Because our after school programs are expanding-now 17 across the region, and more to come--we expect a range of posts soon! Join us here: http://girlstartblog.wordpress.com/category/after-school-blogs/

STEM education is a priority because it's vital to our all our future. But we can't do it without you. As we grow, I am continually reminded how it is thanks to all of you that we are able to do our work. Thank you for being an important part of Girlstart!

Best wishes,

Tamara

Volunteer Spotlight
Thank You UTeach!

Girlstart programs would not be possible without the many UTeach program leaders who lead our programs every week. UTeach students are pre-service teachers getting their degrees in a STEM subject, as well as their teaching certification. UTeach program leaders deliver Girlstart after school programs in and outside of Austin, facilitate our public stem programs, and help develop STEM curricula. If you are a UTeach student and are interested in becoming a Girlstart program leader, please contact Katelyn Wamsted at katelyn@girlstart.org.

Workshop Leaders Wanted!

It's not too late to volunteer for Girls In STEM! The highlight of each workshop is a hands-on activity that shows the girls how much fun a science, technology, engineering or math career can be!
