We are looking to the next five weeks of Summer Camp here at Girlstart with great anticipation. Groups of 4th-5th and 6th-8th grade girls will be engaged in the medical sciences! Next week's Girlstart Clinic starts with a hands-on activity about the largest organ in our immune system...the skin. Congressman McCaul will join us on Monday to welcome Girlstart campers!
We are also looking forward to our weeks of Summer Camp in Killeen. Last week our camp staff worked with 3rd-6th grade girls at the Boys and Girls Club, and we brought our StarLab as a special activity. Check out this great article from the Killeen
Daily Herald!
If this weren't enough, we are preparing for a week of Summer Camp at Texas A&M's Vizlab in mid-July. 7th-9th grade students will learn about information visualization-and do it!
A recent development for our Girlstart Summer Camps is the ability for our girls to videoconference with leading scientists across the nation. Thanks to support from the Mills Dennis Family Foundation, we now have the capacity to videoconference using large interactive whiteboards. It's a great way to bring amazing talent to our camp groups. We are grateful for the volunteership of Charlotte Vick of
Mission Blue and Emma Hickerson, of the
Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary for their time and energies! You can read about all our videoconference guest speakers in our volunteer section below.
Lastly, I want to share with you some results. We are pleased to report that Girlstart's programs continue to make a difference in girls' lives. Here's some raw post-test data from the first four weeks of camp:
