    The ASTD BEST Awards program annually recognizes those companies where learning is an integral part of the culture. Selection criteria include evidence of the link between learning and performance; investment in learning and performance initiatives; and leverage of technology in learning.

    Here is a profile of BEST organizations' learning investment for 2005:

  • $1,616 training expenditure per employee...up from $1,554 in 2004: an increase of 3.7%
  • 43 learning hours received per employee...up from 36 hours in 2004: an increase of 19%
  • 36.3% of learning delivered in 2005 was technology-based
  • Many companies use external partners to complement internal strengths; this increases learning efficiencies.

  • Training Benchmarks for Smaller Companies
    Training Magazine's 2006 Industry Report

    Training Magazine's 2006 Industry Report highlights results from smaller companies. The learning investment profile looks like this:

  • $1,273 training expenditure per employee...up from $1,190 in 2005: an increase of 7%
  • 29% of learning delivered in 2006 was technology-based
  • 44% of organizations report using external instructors to deliver at least some of their training

  • Payoffs from Increased Training $$$
    Classroom

    DDI and AchieveGlobal, two of CPCC's internationally known training partners, have done extensive research on how training impacts employee satisfaction and productivity, quality of products and service, customer satisfaction and financial performance.

    AchieveGlobal states "research demonstrates a clear relationship between employees' perception of training opportunities and job satisfaction." DDI surveyed senior level management from 52 organizations and found that "participants received true monetary return on investment directly attributed to the training programs."
