the President:

July marks a new beginning for one of our catalytic projects. Charles Edwards started as the new director for the North Carolina Center for Global Logistics. It's terrific news for the region and we were fortunate to find a strong candidate. Charles brings an extensive research and training background that will reinforce and advance the region's existing logistics and transportation infrastructure. I truly believe that a strong and growing logistics sector is critical for our continued economic growth.

Charles is looking forward to his new role, saying, "The Piedmont Triad is recognized as a prime location for leading logistics companies. Logistics binds business across the state and around the world and can be an economic engine for the region helping to prepare a workforce and attract jobs."

I appreciate the support of the four community colleges (Guilford, Forsyth Tech, Davidson and Randolph) involved with the Center and led by Randy Parker at GTCC. This type of cooperative educational training and consulting could be a new model for the region as we focus our efforts on industries with highest potential for growth.

Game Changers

abernathy The PTP is working with Ted Abernathy of the Southern Growth Policy Board to gain insight into the economic development position of the Triad region relevant to other comparable regions. In his latest Commentary, Abernathy reviews the effects of a "Game Changer" - the type of economic development that can bring about a meaningful impact for a region in a down economy.

As you are aware, the PTP is currently supporting two major projects designed to draw game-changing businesses to our region. Our research by UNCG economist Dr. Donald Jud estimates that a large automobile manufacturer could attract approximately 5,000 jobs and contribute over $700 million to the regional economy. He also notes that site readiness at PTI could be a game changer. The airport is studying the addition of over 300 acres for potential aviation and logistics tenants. That expansion could add more than 18,000 jobs to the current 12,000, and bring in $3.2 billion in business revenue for the region.

Both of these projects are in the works and have received some attention from the local press. We continue to engage our PTP leadership for your support of these projects that would really make a difference for our region and benefit us all.
