Can You Help a Golden Feel Safe? |
This summer has been a horrific storm season - so guess what? We now have several goldens in the program who are storm-phobic, which makes us very sad. These storm-phobic goldens are scared of lightning and/or thunder and actually try to run away from it. Some will just pace and drool, some will try to dig a hole to China. Some are destructive. Many of these dogs are like this because they were left outside in their early years and were traumatized.
AGA is one of the few golden rescues in the country who will take these dogs. After years of working with these dogs, we have had good success. With a combination of environmental changes and medications, we can get a dog through the storm season. We are looking for people to foster and adopt these dogs. You will have to have patience and resolve. It isn't easy but it sure is rewarding. We will support you with all our knowledge if you will open your heart to one of these goldens. These are the ones who really need to be rescued! Go to our website and read about more about thunderphobia.
If you are interested in meeting one of these dogs, please send us an email at info@adoptagoldenatlanta.com.

| August Orphan of the Month | |
Meet Sunshine, our August Orphan of the Month! She is a bright and beautiful 4 year old golden. Sunshine was at a shelter and had heartworms and was on the list to be put down when AGA came to her rescue. Sunshine is now healthy and ready to get her new family. She adores everyone and is incredibly smart. She knows most of her commands already. Sunshine would love for you to sing her favorite song to her, "You are my Sunshine". She lights up when she hears it. You can meet Sunshine and our other orphans at Adoption Day on August 5th.

Right now, we're looking for vendors and silent auction items. For example, things for dogs and dog-related items, as well as restaurant gift cards, movie tickets and other entertainment items families might like! If you have something to donate or know of potential vendors, please contact Juliann Kaiser.
Don't forget to mark your calendars for Goldenrama 2012 on Sunday, October 21, 1-4 pm at the Field at Atlanta Athletic Club. Bring your golden retriever and the rest of your family for a fun-filled afternoon.

AGA Grows & More Volunteers Are Needed | |
AGA continues to grow and our need for volunteers continues to grow. We are the second largest golden retriever rescue in the country and with that status comes the need for even more help. We have openings on the following teams:
Transportation Coordinator
Transportation Coordinators work with the foster team and send out transportation requests for dogs moving between vets, to and from boarding, between fosters and any combination of the three. The volunteer must have access to a computer, be able to respond by computer, and be able to make telephone calls to coordinate the transport request.
Foster Coordinators
Foster Coordinators are assigned foster families. They match available fosters to available dogs, documenting the movement of the dogs in and out of foster, and coordinating any medical issues with our Medical Director.
Application Processors
Application Processors are assigned new applicants. After interviewing them and arranging home visits, they help the applicant find their new golden.
Dog Placement Persons
Every dog is assigned a dog placement person. They work with the foster family to match the right family to the right dog.
If you would like to know more about these positions, please contact info@adoptagoldenatlanta.com.
