Message from the President - A Good Fence Can Save Your Dog |
"Good fences make good neighbors" the saying goes and if you have a large dog you know how true it is. I think if we all had a choice, we would select a nice wooden privacy fence or wrought iron fence around our property. Those are the safest. They keep your dog in and keep others from coming in. However, some people can't have those kind of fences. They either don't have a fence at all and leash walk their dog or some have invisible or electric fences.
If you have, or are considering, an electric fence, we want to point out how these fences should be used. Never, ever leave your dog unattended in an electric fence. We hear all too often the following: "a dog came walking into our yard and our dog attacked it", "our dog saw a dog walking in front and ran through the electric fence but then wouldn't come back across the line and didn't know what to do" or "we had no idea the power had gone out when we let our two dogs out and they ran right in front of a car", or probably the worst we heard, "from the kitchen window, I was watching our dog sunning herself in the front yard and saw a car back into our driveway and a guy got out, lifted my dog right into the backseat of the car and drove off with her".
If you have to use an electric fence, go to Invisible Fence and get them to professionally install it and train your dog on it. Yes, they train your dog on it! And, remember: good fences used the right way keep your dogs safe. Fences used the wrong way put your dog in jeopardy.

Supplies Needed for AGA Orphans
|
Doing a little fall cleaning? If you have old outdoor cushions, furniture cushions, blankets, towels or any type of durable cushions suitable for dog beds, we need them for our orphan dogs that are in boarding waiting for foster homes. The furniture cushions are tougher than dog beds and are perfect for our dogs to lie on. Old bath towels will also come in handy. If you have either of these items, please drop them off at our Adoption Day at PetSet this coming Sunday, November 6th from noon to 2 pm and ask for Carol.

| Megan, November Orphan of the Month |

Meet Megan, our November Orphan of the Month! She is a beautiful 7 year old Golden girl.
Megan recently went through a patch of rough luck and had to get some surgery on her leg. Thankfully, Megan's luck turned around; she had her surgery a few months ago and has healed beautifully. She is feeling great now and is so happy that her leg doesn't hurt anymore!
This pretty girl would make a wonderful companion for anyone. Megan gets along well with children and loves people, likes being walked on a leash and riding in the car, is well mannered and extremely friendly. Megan is extremely sweet and loving and is very ready to move on to find her forever home!
Read Megan's story on our website and her video below, and make sure you come meet Megan and all of AGA's orphan's on our next adoption day, November 6th!

An Incredible Transformation
Cornbread: Before and After
|
It's truly amazing what a little love and medical care can do for a dog! 3 year old golden, Cornbread, was brought to AGA in really rough shape. As you can see from his intake photo below:
Thanks to lots of food, love, and a little bit of medicine, Cornbread has made a truly astounding turnaround. Look how wonderful he looks on his way to meet his foster family! It won't be long before Cornbread finds his forever home.

The Children's Christmas Parade is Coming Up!
|
On Saturday, December 3rd from 10:30 am to noon, The Children's Christmas Parade is taking place in downtown Atlanta. There will be about 300,000 spectators in attendance, and the parade will be televised live on WSB-TV.
Come join in on the holiday parade fun with the AGA delegation! We'll have Bireley, our 6-foot golden retriever mascot on our float leading the way this year. The parade wouldn't be the same without you and your goldens, though. We are looking for 50 volunteers and their goldens to walk with us in the parade as well. If you're interested, please email juliann@adoptagoldenatlanta.com.
