The Great Benefits Of Summer Dance Programs
by Amy Ross
Summer dance camps, workshops and intensive programs offer dancers of all ages and levels a handful of great opportunities.
For the recreational dancer: Summer is a great opportunity to try new disciplines without the commitment of a full year of classes. Sometimes it's hard for dancers to pick just one class and then stick with it all year but with summer camps offering "sample style" classes or a 4-6 week course the dancer is able to try all styles of dance. Summer camps are also a great opportunity if you are looking for a studio. It allows both the dancer and the parent to see how classes are run, the studio's organization and how the dancer interacts with both the teachers and other dancers.
For the competitive dancer: Intensive summer programs are not only a great way to stay in shape they also offer an opportunity to be introduced to new teaching styles. Many dancers have been with the same teacher(s) for many years and no matter how great your teacher is sometimes a new perspective can show you an innovative way of doing an old trick or help you "get something" you just wern't understanding before. These programs are also a great way to get out of your comfort zone. If you've been at your studio for years and are at the top of your class, being in an environment full of great dancers can help push you to the next level. For those thinking of making dance a career it is a great opportunity to see if you have what it takes in a pre or professional school while also getting a glimpse into the training it takes.
So whether your looking to try a new class, go back to dance for the first time in years, or continue your dream of being a dancer, summer is the perfect time to get out there and dance!
