United Front Confronts 'New Normal'
United Way's United Front 2010 event convened over 900 health and human services staff, executives and board members, to discuss roles and strategies in the aftermath of the Great Recession.
State economist Dr. Tom Stinson's eye-opening keynote confirmed what many leaders have come to suspect--while economic recovery has begun, nonprofits may never return to pre-recession levels, and in fact will be fundamentally reshaped by the demographic changes that are altering our community forever. See photos and the event recap or check out video of participants' impressions of the event.
We'd like to extend a special thanks to General Mills for their sponsorship of this event.
This event was held in partnership with the Center for Nonprofit Management, University of St. Thomas; Minnesota Council of Nonprofits; the Minnesota Council on Foundations; the Nonprofits Assistance Fund; and the Management Assistance Program for Nonprofits. |

Father's Day is June 20! |
|
Would you like to get your dad something other than a power tool or tie this year? We can help. A tribute gift to United Way in Dad's name will show him how much you care and make a lasting impact on the community. And for honoring Dad with a tribute gift, we'll include his name in United Way's 2011 Community Report!

Wilder Research Uncovers Startling Statistics about MN's Homeless
It's estimated that 13,100 people are homeless on any given night in Minnesota, a projection that's risen sharply since the 2006 study. See the full 2009 report.
Thanks to funding from United Way, Wilder was able to conduct this triennial statewide survey to better understand the causes, circumstances and impact of homelessness.
Last October, more than 1,000 volunteers conducted interviews at shelters and transitional housing programs, non-shelter locations like abandoned buildings, as well as hot meal programs and other drop-in services. Our very own staff member Andrea was one of those volunteers. Read about her experience.
