Greetings!
We hope you enjoy this volume of The Edge: A Resource for Iowa's Problem Gambling Professionals.
March 4-10th has been designated National Problem Gambling Awareness Week. Did you know that research finds that 2%-3% of the US population will have a gambling problem in any given year. That's 6 million to 9 million Americans yet only a small fraction seek out services, such as treatment and self-help recovery programs? The goal of this campaign is to educate the general public and health care professionals about the warning signs of problem gambling and raise awareness about the help that is available both locally and nationally. The NCPG is the national advocate for programs and services to assist problem gamblers and their families. Please click on the image to take you to additional information and resources. Iowa is very fortunate to have educatated and compassionate providers to assist people address the issues that arise from problem gambling.
The Edge is a weekly media scan that is distributed from the Iowa Substance Abuse Information Center (ISAIC). IDPH's Office of Problem Gambling is working with ISAIC to provide the latest Problem Gambling news and research in a weekly email and provide relevant training information.
