Patrick Quinlan
Patrick Quinlan
Patrick Quinlin was happy to announced the winning theme for the Monument 4th of July Parade and Street Fair for 2012, which is "Stand Up for the Red, White, and Blue"

Tom Nelson was glad to return from his trip to Australia.

Escondido Kiwanis
Tom Nelson and Dr. Gary Dudar, President
On the return home, he stopped in California and visited the Kiwanis Club of Escondido where he had the Traveling Flag signed. The focus of the Escondido Kiwanis Club is Kiwanis Key Clubs at the two area high schools that are 120 members strong. The interesting thing was that the Kiwanis Club President turned the meeting over to the Key Club President, who conducted the rest of the meeting. A sergeant-at-arms from the Kiwanis Key Club was appointed and it quickly became clear that the meeting was a fundraiser for the Kiwanis Key Club. The meeting wrapped up with the Kiwanis Key Club President singing a solo with ukulele accompaniment. It was a lot of fun.

Mobile Display SystemSteve Stephenson is pleased to introduce the Club to the Mobile Display System that was unveiled at the Kiwanis Rocky Mountain District Mid-Winter Conference and was expectedly well received! It will 'travel' to various locations around the Tri-Lakes region, keeping our community informed about the MHKC service projects. A huge thanks to Barb and Nick Dienes and Barb and Russ Broshous for their work in procuring the system for the Club.

Praire Winds K-Kids
Praire Winds Kiwanis K-Kids

Rich Rima, Kiwanis Advisor, announced the Prairie Winds Elementary School Kiwanis K-Kids Club organized and arranged a Basket Raffle to raise money for the school. Held in conjunction with a Science Fair, Bake Sale, and Pizza Party on Tuesday evening, February 28, the Basket Raffle featured nearly a dozen Extravaganza Baskets produced by the various classrooms. The idea was for the visitors to buy tickets that they then put in a container next to each basket, from which one winning ticket was drawn at the end of the evening. The results: over $3,300 raised to be used by the school's teachers to buy needed equipment and supplies that otherwise would be unaffordable. Pictured here with a student is the "Retro Basket" produced by the 6th grade class of Mrs. Carrie Locke, who is the Faculty Advisor to the PWES Kiwanis K-Kids Club.

PenniesMarian Taylor, Kiwanis Advisor, reported that the Kiwanis K-Kids Club members at Ray E. Kilmer Elementary School organized and promoted the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's "Pennies for Patients" program as their latest service project. The student body at Kilmer was asked to scour their homes for spare change over a three week period to aid children and adults in the fight against blood cancers such as leukemia. A grand total of $1,412.36 was collected. For more than 15 years, over 12 million students have participated. Pennies for Patients is all about 'making change' that makes a difference. Kilmer students collected more than spare change - they also collected the gratitude of cancer patients and their families.

John Ruskin said, "When a man is wrapped up in himself, he makes a pretty small package."

No Kiwanian need fear this judgment; through service to others, we have opened our arms and our hearts to embrace the world.
