The Innovative DOT: A Handbook of Policy and Practice

Friday, September 28 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m., CST

SSTI has teamed up with Smart Growth America to create a resource to inform senior state-level transportation officials as they make decisions that position their agencies for success.

This handbook of transportation policy and practice for the new economy collects the innovative approaches state leaders are already using to make systems more efficient, government more effective, and constituents better satisfied.

The Handbook includes reforms separated into categories:

  • Funding and finance
  • Revenue allocations and project selection
  • Increasing transportation system efficiency
  • Pricing
  • Improving options for non-automobile mobility
  • Integrating transportation and land use
  • Streamlining internal DOT operations
  • Freight

The descriptions of each area provide information about the political opportunity each presents, steps for implementation, case studies, and resources for further information.

The Handbook has been recently revised in coordination with Smart Growth America.
