NACO-NARC Livability Messaging Review
Monday, September 24 from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m., CST
Hosted by the National Association of Regional Councils in partnership with the National Association of County Officials.
This message testing session will discuss different livability language and initiatives used to carry out livability goals.
Additionally, it will enable NARC and NACo to understand hot button words, issues and different difficulties with the implementation of livability principles in varying communities.
Ultimately, information from this session will guide NARC in the creation of a livability guidebook with appropriate language and techniques for different communities to navigate the creation of a livability program. Click HERE to register.

State Smart Transportation Initiative Webinar Series
The Innovative DOT: A Handbook of Policy and Practice Friday, September 28 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m., CST
SSTI has teamed up with Smart Growth America to create a resource to inform senior state-level transportation officials as they make decisions that position their agencies for success.
This handbook of transportation policy and practice for the new economy collects the innovative approaches state leaders are already using to make systems more efficient, government more effective, and constituents better satisfied.
The Handbook includes reforms separated into categories:
- Funding and finance
- Revenue allocations and project selection
- Increasing transportation system efficiency
- Pricing
- Improving options for non-automobile mobility
- Integrating transportation and land use
- Streamlining internal DOT operations
- Freight
The descriptions of each area provide information about the political opportunity each presents, steps for implementation, case studies, and resources for further information.
The Handbook has been recently revised in coordination with Smart Growth America.

Performance Measures In Public Involvement
Tuesday, October 16 from 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m., CST
The webinar will describe public involvement performance measurements and metrics. Presenters will also demonstrate a software tool currently being tested and used by the Florida Department of Transportation to capture public sentiment about their involvement. These performance measures and the software tool may be models for others to consider or emulate.
Participants must register in advance of the webinar, and there is a small fee of $49 for non-TRB Sponsor employees. A certificate for 1.5 Professional Development Hours (PDH) will be provided to attendees who register and attend the webinar as an individual. This webinar is approved by the American Institute of Certified Planners for 1.5 Certification Maintenance Credits.

State Smart Transportation Initiative Webinar Series
Innovative, Sustainable Funding Options for State DOTs
Monday, October 29 from Noon - 1:00 p.m., CST
This webinar will discuss a new SSTI report on innovative, sustainable transportation funding models to assist decision-makers in identifying policies and practices to augment the current fuel tax revenue system.
The report provides a broad account of these funding methods, where they have been implemented or proposed, and identifies state laws, policies, and practices that permit state DOTs and local governments to pursue a more sustainable funding model.
The report, completed with the participation of North Carolina DOT, as well as Arizona, Illinois,Tennessee, Vermont, and Washington DOTs, suggests ways multiple revenue sources might be packaged to support and maintain transportation systems. Join Paul Morris, Deputy Secretary for Transit for NCDOT to hear about options that states can use.
