FHWA:  MAP-21 Information Webinars

Thursday, August 2 from Noon - 2:00 p.m. CST or

Wednesday, August 8 from Noon - 2:00 p.m. CST

As you know, this landmark bill significantly changes and modernizes the Nation's highway program, by consolidating programs, eliminating redundant programs and processes, and shortening the highway project delivery process.Desktop

This webinar is designed to make you aware of the major changes brought about by MAP-21, and to provide a forum for beginning the national dialog FHWA wishes to have with you on questions and concerns as FHWA works to prepare for the October 1 implementation of these program changes and efficiencies.

Subsequent webinars to be held later in August will concentrate on specific highway program areas. These will be followed by more detailed webinars on October 1 implementation.

For additional information and to register for the webinar, Click HERE, to register for the webinar and for additional information.

Please note that these webinars are informational in nature and are not decisional at this time.  FHWA is still in the process of interpreting this newly enacted law, and we cannot respond to interpretation questions during the webinars.

We welcome any questions you might have in advance of the webinar, including specific non-decisional questions you would like to see addressed.  These questions will be used to create a question-and-answer forum which will benefit everyone interested in MAP-21 implementation.

Freight Considerations in Traffic Incident Management

Wednesday, August 15 from Noon - 1:30 p.m., CST

The U.S. economy depends on reliable freight transportation to link businesses with suppliers and markets throughout the nation and the world.

However, natural and man-made events that occur both within the U.S. and globally have the potential to impact the supply chain and overall freight movement, with repercussions on the commerce and the economy.

With traffic incident management (TIM), a planned and coordinated program, incidents are detected and removed, traffic restored to capacity as safely and quickly as possible.

This webinar will discuss the relationship of TIM and impact of traffic incidents to goods movement, industry perspectives, ways to engage the goods movement industry, and examples of initiatives that may help with the reducing the impact of incidents on goods movement.

Integrating Sustainability Analysis into Freight

Wednesday, September 19 from Noon to 1:30 p.m., CST

Integrating Sustainability Analysis into Freight
Sustainability is a concept that enables decision-makers to make balanced choices around different and competing objectives.

Freight transportation touches all three dimensions of this sustainability concept - social, environmental, and economic. Current issues relevant to freight sustainability include emissions reductions and climate change, job creation and preservation, and community impacts.

To assist practitioners with sustainability, a number of tools have been developed to integrate sustainability best practices into highway and freight projects and programs.

The webinar will discuss tools and methods from FHWA, the European Union's COFRET (Carbon Footprint of Freight Transport) project, and others that can be used in understanding the sustainability aspects of freight transportation projects.
