Recent Roadway Geometric Design Research for Improved Safety and Operations

Tuesday, June 19, from Noon - 1:30 p.m., CST  


NCHRP Synthesis 432 reviews and summarizes published literature from 2001 to 2011 related to safety and operational aspects of geometric design practices. 

The webinar, like the report, will provide options to practitioners on where to find these sources to help them make more informed decisions on geometric design issues that impact safety and operations.

The report is structured to correspond to chapters in the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials' A Policy on Geometric Design of Highways and Streets, more commonly referred to as the Green Book.

The webinar will review NCHRP Synthesis 432 material on a corresponding chapter-by-chapter basis, highlighting key findings and important topics of geometric design research throughout the previous decade.

Participants must register in advance of the webinar. A certificate for 1.5 Professional Development Hours (PDH) will be provided to attendees who register and attend the webinar as an individual.

Traffic Incident Management Public Outreach Toolkit Launch 

Tuesday, June 19 from Noon - 1:30 p.m., CST

The goal of this Toolkit is to save lives and reduce congestion by educating the general public about two key laws:

* "Move it" laws require motorists involved in traffic incidents to move their vehicles out of the lanes of traffic if they are able and it is safe to do so; 
* "Slow Down/Move Over" laws require drivers to slow down and move over to an adjacent lane when motorists see flashing lights of an emergency responder.

 
The objectives of this webinar are to:

* Introduce free customizable public outreach tools (poster, brochure, messages, etc.)  
* Review how you can use these tools to help save lives and lesson congestion

The Nexus:  Title VI/Nondiscrimination and Public Involvement

Title VI - Nondiscrimination Program and Public Involvement engender consensus building, conflict prevention and resolution, collaboration, public spiritedness, awareness and sound decision-making.

This webinar will not only show the correlation between Title VI/Nondiscrimination and Public Involvement, it will also: 
  • Review practical techniques and strategies to elicit public involvement
  • Identify public involvement responsibilities and tools
  • Define who "the public" is in public involvement
  • Recognize the objectives and responsibilities of community outreach and public education
  • Generate discussion regarding the "reasonable" approach to addressing public involvement or implementing a public involvement program, and

Estimating The Economic Impact of Transportation Investments

New software makes assessment more convenient, but it often leaves out important economic outcomes, such as property value change or economic transfer within a state or metro are. SSTI has worked with Center for Neighborhood Technology and several member DOTs to produce updated guidance designed to improve economic impact assessment.

An online tool will take practitioners through a set of steps to help them select the best methods to produce the most valid estimates. CNT's Sarah Campbell presents.

Transportation Infrastructure Finance & Innovation Act Webinar

The webinar will also provide an executive overview of TIFIA Federal Credit Assistance program, whose objective is to leverage Federal transportation funding to attract private investment to the U.S. surface transportation sector.

The objective of the webinar is for participants to understand the benefits of federal credit assistance and the intricacies of securing this funding to build needed infrastructure.
