Making The Case For Funding System Preservation

Tuesday, May 29 from 1:00 p.m - 2:00 p.m., CST

Hosted by State Smart State Initiative

The Interstate-building era provided elected officials and the public with very obvious evidence about how their money was being spent. Today, with a mature highway system that requires more support for preservation than new construction, DOTs must work harder to show these stakeholders the benefits of investment.

Iowa DOT has been working with SSTI and Spitfire Communications to hone this message. DOT Director Paul Trombino, DOT planning Director Stuart Anderson, and Spitfire's Beth Kanter present.

Estimating The Economic Impact of Transportation Investments

Friday, June 29 from 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m., CST

Hosted by the State Smart Transportation Initiative

New software makes assessment more convenient, but it often leaves out important economic outcomes, such as property value change or economic transfer within a state or metro are. SSTI has worked with Center for Neighborhood Technology and several member DOTs to produce updated guidance designed to improve economic impact assessment.

An online tool will take practitioners through a set of steps to help them select the best methods to produce the most valid estimates. CNT's Sarah Campbell presents.
