| Evidence Update: What Women with Lymphedema Need |
Recent research explored the unmet needs of women with lymphedema three to five years after breast cancer treatment. In the study, 237 Australian women with lymphedema were surveyed and asked about issues and needs in the past month related to these areas: psychological, health system and information, physical and daily living, patient care and support, sexuality needs, body image, and financial. The needs most commonly identified as a "moderate to high" were having their doctor and other health care providers fully informed about lymphedema, acknowledge the seriousness of the condition, and be willing to treat it. Women also wanted access to up to date treatments, both mainstream and alternative, and often needed financial assistance for their garments. Information and support, body image and self esteem as well as health system issues were three of the most critical issues that women said they struggled with. The authors concluded that in order to address the needs of women with lymphedema, reduce lymphedema risk and to reduce progression of lymphedema, it is important that healthcare providers do not dismiss mild symptoms and that women are referred to an appropriate rehabilitation specialist.

| Patient Perspective - Overcoming Fear |
"As anyone being diagnosed with breast cancer knows, I was scared to death. After my double mastectomy, I chose the expander process for my reconstruction. I was told this is should be a 4 week process. Well...maybe in a perfect world. I had a lot of difficulty and we weren't sure I could handle the process. Thank goodness he suggested TurningPoint! They were a godsend to me. My treatment at TurningPoint allowed me to complete my expansions and my reconstruction process."
"The second worst part of breast cancer and the surgeries were...NO golf! Once again, thank God for TurningPoint and the staff there. Through my sessions of physical therapy and massages, I was able to return to my passion for golf even earlier than orginally predicted by my doctor. The physical therapy and strength building exercises really helped me and my golf game. The day I was released to return to golf I was so nervous, but felt strong enough. That day I shot my best score at my golf club, Rivermont and believe it or not...I had a hole in one that day!! Before I was introduced to TurningPoint there were times I wasn't sure if I would ever be able to play golf again, much less have an improved game. Thank you so much to the each member of the staff, I couldn't have got through the past year without you."
"It has been one year this month since I received that terrifying phone call. Because of the staff at TurningPoint , their hard work with me and their support, the year wasn't as terrible as I thought it was going be. Life goes on and gets better every swing of the club."
Tamara Donnelly, Patient, Golfer

Tamara's experience was also featured in June's Alpharetta Neighbor Newspapers.
